I am a new player to 30k, and have been sucked into it well and truly with my regular opponent. Me with wolves and a friend doing thousand sons. Any tips for new guys to this universe? We have both played a fair bit of 7th, so are happy with the rules. Any tips would be nice though

Any types of tip in particular?

For someone new who's coming from 7th my biggest tip is to build your army around your troops. They are your largest point sink and dictate how the rest of your army will play. Have a plan for them and your HQ as the base of any army and go from there.

My 2 cents:

1) Pick a legion or other force. Sounds like you’ve got this covered.

2) Pick a playstyle you like. Bikes, mechanized infantry, tank platoon, whatever.

3) Spend so much money that your significant other threatens to leave you.

4) Paint it all, cause fully painted is the way to go.

4) Roll dice and enjoy the hobby!

30k is a lot less about playing the best army and maximizing your points than 40k. Most players have a narrative or theme to their army that they stick with.

Lots of Grey Slayers using either of the Space Wolves Rite of War is a solid core to an army. Some people say they suck but they're one of the best troops choices in Heresy in my humble opinion and can be suuuuper customised.

Best thing to do is get familiar with the little rules changes and quirks too.

Thinks like no Terminators being able to Deep Strike unless allowed via rite of war or a piece of war gear etc.

Yeah, Grey Slayers are fantastic! I've never heard anyone say that they suck. 'The Bloodied Claws' is a pretty fantastic Rite of War for the Space Wolves.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest listening to the Radio Free Isstvan episode that covers the Space Wolves in 30k :tu:

Should have seen this forum when Book 7 came out :teehee:

But yes, Wolves are a seriously fluffy and fun army that have a bit of restrictive but very effective builds.

Hope you either sell drugs or real estates because 30k can get annoyingly expensive :)

On the other hand I do suggest going trough some HH books/sites w.ever just to find our more about the fluff, because HH its mostly about the background and getting that on table, rather than power creep, OP builds etc.

If you and your buddy are set, best start is either go and split Calth/Prospero box or get one of those "starter sets" that FW came up with; these are neat addition to Calth/Prospero. Try out few small games before going all-in.

Oh in before anything; just watch THIS (ne of the best intros into 30k)

Hope this helps

Thanks guys! happy with the advice here, i have seen the death of hope trailer, It IS AMAZING!

Grey slayers looks great, thinking bolters, a few combis, maybe a few power weapons and artificer/power fist on the srg. Prospero will be my starter with a few bits from FW me thinks.

I'd suggest not giving them bolters because they're an extra 2 points a model and you're probably going to want to be running them or have them in combat to take advantage of their special rules. A few power weapons across the squad would be a great option though.

Of course if you love the classic Grey Slayer/Hunter look with the bolters then go for it :tu:

It is such a classic look that i feel like i want to, 5point power weapons are so useful though
