Uprising
I was wondering if anyone has a good tutorial for crimson metallic red color for armor? I plan for my next project to be a Word bearer army. I do have an airbrush and willing to go outside GW paint line. Thanks in advance. Kastor Krieg
Tamiya Clear Red over gold / brass :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343065-crimson-metallic-red-armor/#findComment-4975449 Share on other sites
ToyShip
Tamiya Metallic Red spray with a coat of Tamiya Smoke spray. Check out the log in my signature. If you go heavier with the Smoke than I did you can get a very good deep crimson. Very Word Bearer-esque. Major_Gilbear
You could also look for a good automotive paint that's already a nice metallic red - there's usually dozens of shades of red to choose from. That would be super-fast, and if you just line in the shades and the highlights, a coat of gloss will seal the deal. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343065-crimson-metallic-red-armor/#findComment-4975489 Share on other sites

If you go heavier with the Smoke than I did you can get a very good deep crimson. Very Word Bearer-esque. I totally 2nd this. Here's my sample of Tamiya Metallic Red spray on Marines: http://oi67.tinypic.com/2wmeu61.jpg And much heavier use of Smoke on a Vehicle (a 30k Mechanicum Macrocarid Explorator conversion): http://oi67.tinypic.com/28w2h34.jpg How I do it: 1. Undercoat a flat/matte Black 2. Tamiya Metallic Red TS-18 Spray basecoat, I do like 2 fine coats 3. Wash with Tamiya Smoke X-19, comes in little vials. Be careful with this, this needs some practice as it's very syrupy Oh here's a tape measure I painted up to be a Mechanicus Surveying Device, no Smoke except on the centre ring with the cog: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343065-crimson-metallic-red-armor/#findComment-4975828 Share on other sites

Tichinde
I put a tutorial up for my Thousand Sons a while back (based on Forge Worlds method of clear paints over a metallic base) and, while a little shinier than I imagine Word Bearers ought to be, it might be able to use alternative colours/paints to achieve the result you want: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336154-heresy-thousand-sons-metallic-no-air-brush-required/ Edited January 10, 2018 by Tichinde Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343065-crimson-metallic-red-armor/#findComment-4979236 Share on other sites
