I am. The Rogue Trader RPG was how I first became aware of Warhammer 40k, and I still have all the books for it on my shelf. This one’s pretty old, so I’m not sure how the lore will match up with today’s editions, but I’ll check it out, absolutely.

Ah, to sail the void in my Star Galleon, my trusty crew of pirates and xenos at my side, smuggling forbidden goods right under the Ecclesiarchy’s nose... what a life.

I picked up a copy of this at the open day last November, it's currently in the large pile of books I've not had time to read yet :sad.:

Haha, this! I feel your pain, 1 x toddler + 1 x new born + 1 x busy job = not a lot of time for reading... if only there was an audio release for all Black Library works, ponderously looks over at Deathwatch & Ahriman Omnibus's :happy.:

Kids fairly put a dent in the old reading and modelling. Since number two came along to our house modelling has all but stopped.

Thankfully I’m married to a fellow reader and we read a lot of nights when the wee ones hit the sack. The trouble is staying awake!

Oh and rogue trader is an excellent read, I will buy this and reread it as I have no idea where my old copy is. Also I want to support and encourage BL to move into different fields. I would love to see some new rogue trader novels

I really enjoyed this series. Nothing super-special, in general, but fairly solid and enjoyable explorations of an odd bit of the 40k universe.

There's a scene in particular, however, in the second novel (Star of Damocles, if memory serves) which is one of my favourite amongst all of 40k lore.

It's just two folk chatting as they watch some stuff happen, but it is chilling and glorious and horrifying and quintessential 40k.

I really fancy re-reading them now!

I’m through the first novel, working on the second. What edition of lore was this novel based off of? The Imperium’s actually talking abou Conquering an alien species, not obliterating them! And some details of Tau physiology seem based off of the old Xenology book, long since retconned. What the smurf, man?

Semi-finished it. Can’t truly offer a review because I kind of skimmed through the 3rd book. Sorry, but I lost interest after the second. Tried to think of some thoughts to offer on it, but they’re mostly muddled. Hmm.

Maybe the book felt that way to me because of the earlier state of the lore it was written from. The White Scars and Tau themselves don’t seem nearly as fleshed out as I’ve read in other books about them by Chris Wraight and Phil Kelly, so their characters felt a bit 2-dimensional.

The 3 main characters, the actual Rogue Traders, were certainly more interesting, but their story was centered around some earlier re-telling of the Damocles Crusade. Significant differences from the versions of this conflict that I had read about in 6th Edition and later versions left me feeling a bit... I dunno. Maybe it’s a little like how older veterans feel about newer editions of lore.

Can’t say it was terrible, but it didn’t win me over like I’d hoped it would. Sigh, I’ll have to find another way to get my fix of Space Pirate action.
