The_Stray_Idea
So with a few events I’m looking at this year requiring a 1500pt zone list I have had to venture into slightly unknown territory with my local gaming area not havibg ZM set up. The list I am looking to run is as follows. HQ Preator in Cataphractti paragon blade and 2 pups. Wolf Priest with some Death sworn as a command squad rad Grenades and a melta on Priest. ELITES Contemptor dread combat weapon and chain fist, havoc launchers and have points spare for all the inbuilt weapons. 5 Vrygad Terminators 2 auto cannons 2 chain fists 2 frost claws and Sargent with chain fist and frost claw. Troops. 2 units of 10 grey slayers, great frost blade and melta bombs on the unit leaders and a 2+ save 1 power fist hidden with in the squad. All with bolters and 2 ccw’s. Am thinking bloody claw will be the ROW I run with this given the size of the boards. If I’m honest I think it’s fairly thematic of how the wolves should be in a close quarters/boarding environment but any and all feed back is always appreciated. Stray Just a few clarifications please. Do you mean a combi-melta on the priest? since he cannot take melta bombs How many deathsworn are you taking? Only independent characters can take great frost blades, so you cannot take them on your grey slayers. Be better to take a power fist and artificer armour. It looks good though, you seem to have some points left over, 90 by my calculation assuming a 5 man deathsworn. Removing the great frost blades and melta bombs in the grey slayer squads and replacing with a power fist would save you 20 points, twice. That is enough to get 2 apothecarians for your grey slayers for a lovely 5+++ save on them. or make both packs the full 15 size, maybe some hidden power weapons in there as well (5 points is a steal!) Bloodied claw will be the better ROW for ZM. Hope this helps The_Stray_Idea 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343277-space-wolves-zone-mortalis-1500pts/#findComment-4981834 Share on other sites
The_Stray_Idea
Thanks for the feed back. I noticed I can’t take bloody claw as I have slow and purposeful units unfortunately though not the end of the world as I’m quite used to running pale hunter. I’m sure grey slayer leaders can take frost weapons. The upgrade to frost doest carry into all squads but some of the legion specifics do get them. I will have to double check that. If I can keep the blades then I’d prefer i3 AP2 attacks vs unwieldy. The apothecary is a good shout though. Given the priest can’t take melta bombs I’ll take a thunder hammer in the death sworn instead. I’m curious how you got to 90 points spare though. My calculations bing me to only 3 points spare. I’d like to be wrong and get some more bodies in the list. Thanks for the feedback. Halfpint100
They can take a frost weapon, but the great frost blade is only for independent characters with power weapons as an upgrade or 1 in 5 deathsworn can take one. Points: praetor 100+ 35 for termy + 20 for paragon + 20 for 2 pups = 175 Priest 105 deathsworn 175 + rad grenades 30 = 205 contemptor 175 + chainfist 10 + havoc 15 =200 5 Varagyr termies 270 + 2 auto 30 +3 chainfist 15 + 1 second wolf claw 5 = 320 10 grey slayer 125 +artificer 10 + power fist 10 + great frost blade 15 (just to find out points) + melta bombs 5 + 10 bolters 20 = 185 same as above 185 total = 1370 So you have a fair bit left over (unless I am missing something or using out of date points) do remember though, with the grey slayers, it is bolters OR power weapons The_Stray_Idea 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343277-space-wolves-zone-mortalis-1500pts/#findComment-4981928 Share on other sites
The_Stray_Idea
Well I’ll be running frost weapons or power axes then. I still prefer a melta bomb over a power fist given the chance. With the extra points you seem to have found there it works nicely. I will probably keep a power fist in the slayers and run bolters where ever I can with them. Try and keep them a bit more flexible. Thanks for the help.
