Going to offer a contrary opinion here, that something more '30k Legion unit' isn't always preferable. It's just so, bland, and hardly representative of the changes the Legions have undergone. I was kinda disappointed when DG got Deathshroud in their 40k dex, rather than coming up with some novel, Chaos-y option (tbh, I'd have preferred at least a different name from the pre-Nurgle Legion, as 'guy with Scythe' still works pretty well for Chaos DG). Other than that? Something new and different for each God would be cool. You could do standard, expected stuff like Marines on Daemon steeds, which would be cool (albeit stepping on Daemon's toes a tad), but I'd like to see something a bit more creative.

World Eaters? Some sort of Havoc-esque fire support unit. If Khorne really cares not from whence the blood flows, explosion and bullet should be just as good as axe and claw. These are the WEs that adhere to that aspect of Khorne.

Thousand Sons? Either more variety on their Rubrics, or something Marine, Tzeentch aligned beyond the basic 'mark of tzeentch', but not an original Legionary, and so not rubriced. It always bothered me how limited Tzeentch seems to be in that regard. A new Traitor can become a Berserker, Plague Marine or Noise Marine with enough dedication etc. But there's no real equivalent for Tzeentch. Maybe a coterie of mini sorcerers?

Death Guard? Hard one, because they've been pretty well served by the recent book by all accounts. Not sure how they'd be functionally different, but it'd be nice to see some Marines going the emaciated, gaunt plague victim route, rather than the bloated rotting Nurgle standard. Maybe functioning more like a Scout, light infantry/skirmisher type of unit?

Emperor's Children? Pretty easy, if pervasive (also, Slannesh are my guys when it come to filthy Traitors ). Sonic Weapons on everything, for a start. An EC army should have the option of all sonic, all the time. Secondly (assuming they'll get a TDA unit when they get a dex), they're kinda the opposite of Khorne atm, all range with the Noise Marines. So I'd like to see some kind of melee specialist. But not just a port of Palatine Blades or Phoenix Termies. Something new, Marines drugged to the nines, a smattering of doom sirens, advanced shrieker stun implants and poisoned weaponry maybe?

As for the unaligned Legions? That's a bit harder, as you start running into the 'why does only one Legion have this?' issue. The idea of (for example) an IW cyborg forlorn hope unit, decked out in so many warp infused bionic upgrades and weapon systems there's precious little Marine left is a pretty cool idea, but why wouldn't the Black Legion, Alpha Legion or long term Renegade Band have picked up the trick too?

Edit: Nasty little typo :unsure.:

Hear, hear! :D

I always wanted them to be a mount for any of our characters, the way bikes/jump packs were available in previous editions. Sadly, this will never happen in 8th/beyond so long as the "only models with rules" thing continues. Relegating the lord on juggernaut to the index was a sad move, but it is a fantasy model. :(

If WE ever get their own Codex I think that we'd see them. For the Teeth I think its up for converting. WE Havocs exist :)

The Juggernaut sculpt even looks more 40k as AoS. Model has wires, pistons and everything.

If Iron Warriors got a codex release like Death Guard I'd like these additional choices:

+HQ+

Perturabo Daemon Primarch

Dreadnought Warsmith

+Elites+

Iron Circle

Tyrant Siege Terminators

Siege Dreadnought

+Troops+

Breacher Squad (combat shield and combi-bolters, 6+FNP)

Forlorn Hope (chainsword and bolt pistol or dual bolt pistol, extensive bionics that provide a 6+ Invuln and 6+ FNP)

+Fast Attack+

Crazed Rabble (huge block of fast moving human troops with trench knives and clubs that can regen dead models to some degree)

+Heavy Support+

Artillery Walker (piloted robot walker with an Earthshaker cannon)

Wreckers (Astartes with daemonic heavy weapons that don't take -1 for moving, trading off for shorter range)

+Dedicated Transport+

Siege Walker (6 capacity armored walker that ignores terrain and has short range assault weapons)

+Fortifications+

Siege Tower (deepstriking fortification that can either have a single high damage gun and no transport capacity, 6 heavy weapons and 5 transport capacity, or 2 heavy weapons and 10 transport capacity. It drops from orbit onto the battlefield and is then immobile, has extra big explosion if it's destroyed)

Concept: shooty, midrange army, Perturabo is extremely durable but primarily provides buffs to units rather than being fighty himself. The Iron Circle can further body guard him taking his wounds like Celestine's Geminae. Shorter range of weapons requires in your face play, emphasis on shooting over melee. No named or unique characters except Perturabo, because everyone but him is disposable.

Bringers of Despair should basically be Grey Knight Paladins (in statline but not psychic).

Alpha Legion Headhunters would be alpha legion special chosen, come with chosen statline and Combi Bolters and power daggers (s-1, Mortal Wound), can deepstrike with the purple prose of "emerging from the shadows" or whatever, and can target characters, rerolling misses.

Special mutilators for world eaters where they get double movement for less 3+ armor, and can assault from deep strike, and get +1 strength per kill adding mutilator weapons bonuses as usual.

Special Warp Talons for the Night Lords where they all basically get a watered down version of the Murder Sword rules, and can deepstrike 6" from their target.

Iron Warrior Obliterator virus Warpsmiths that allow you to steal a enemy vehicle (non Dred) unit for a turn and use it (move shoot assault).

Word Bearers "Loregars Champion", basically a Exalted Champion who has Possessed stats added to ExChamp Stats emphasis on enemy character hunting.

Emperor's Children "Gunkata guys", dual pistol guys who ignore penalties for advancing and firing pistols who always advance 6" 4+ armor save.

Daemon Wranglers for Ksons, exalted sorcerer who specializes in (more easily summoning) daemons. Pretty much thinking Khayon and his Yu-Gi-Oh cards here, give them bonuses to dispelling daemonic units too, like a smite that works better against them, and a power to ensnare enemy daemon units for a turn.

Deathguard Terminators with dual powerfists and twin flamer type weapons that lower a targets toughness to a minimum of 1 (reducing movement speed-including vehicles). Kinda a combo unit-though for all I know death guard got something like this or better. I'm not a Nurgle fan.

Not so much for any 1 legion, but changing chosen to be a carbon copy of legion vets would be real nice.

Night lords cpuld get terror squads, that would be pretty cool, and move them away from 'always jump pack, all the time'

Alpha legion could have headhunters, essentially chosen with combi bolters and on a roll of a 6 to wound it's ap-2, good to take out buffing characters but need support for the guys with invun saves

Emperors children having drugged up close combat guys would be alot of fun

Not that they will get it, but 1k sons getting something like a grey knight strike squad (ie elite and all psyker)

World eaters getting red butcher's and jugger zerkers would be fun.....maybe also have a option for a squad of zerkers to hitch a ride on a defilier

Iron warriors cpuld have better havocs and tyrant siege termies

Let's see here:

I'd like to see Alpha Legion get initiates. They'd essentially be the equivalent to a squad of black Templar neophytes. They'd start the game on your opponents side (gaining all the keywords the opponent has) and on turn three (or at the cost of a CP) they'd then become your units and they'd keep whatever benefits they got when they were on the opponents team.

For emperor's children, I want the Palantine blades to be units. Maybe after centuries of corruption and excess, the only "feel" during combat? I'd like to see them have something that returns/gives extra wounds to them for every wound that goes through on enemy units and they get extra attacks (added onto their characteristic) for every wound they suffer.

Night Lords should get legitimate terror units. For each member of the unit (they're groups of three) they lay down a booby trap (small token nine inches or less away from them) and when any enemies come within three inches, it explodes dealing D3 mortal wounds. At the cost of not moving, they can set more traps. When they damage a unit, all enemy units within nine inches of the unit that they damaged have to take a leadership test.

I'd like to see Exodus in 40k and the option to take some Renegade Guard as part of an <Alpha Legion> Detachment. Similarly, I'd love to see Word Bearers being able to take Daemons in a <Word Bearers> Detachment.

I think everyone agrees the Thousand Sons should have Sorcerer Contemptor Dreadnoughts, Bringers of Despair should be a thing for the Black Legion, Siege Terminators for the Iron Warriors, Rampagers (genuine World Eater Berzerkers) for the World Eaters, and Palatine Blades and Phoenix Guard for the Emperor's Children.

The most difficult thing would be to work in units from other codices into the CSM army lists, so it would by nature have to be limited to avoid crazy combos à la the old Allies stuff.

Alpha Legion: Chosen with free infiltrate, storm bolters and chainswords.

I'd opt for a 40k version of Headhunters. Havocs (or Chosen) with Infiltrate and combi-bolters with the option of going 18" rapid fire and AP -3 (Banestrike Ammo), or something similar to actually make them kill MEQs dead.

To branch out further...

I'd love to see an Eye of Terror styled codex where there was an actual Traitor Guard that could be used as a viable army. Given how 8th is working....I would love to see more of the traitor mortals able to be put into a Chaos army that I don't have to go to FW to get....

A super easy unit for the WB would be to simply port over the Gal Vorbak to 40k. The models look amazing, and the unit bring a strong daemonic theme that fits the WB nicely. It also gives them something unique, and something that might make sense to take instead of Cults.

Well Id love to start out with a plastic Dreadclaw. I think all CSM would benifit from this.

Absolutely, can't believe we haven't gotten a drop pod despite CSM being mostly fleet based.

I'd like it if the Word Bearers had better possessed daemon troops. Perhaps that could be the Gal Vorbak; possessed with access to chosen weapons.

Granted that the Gal Vorbak were distinctively a 30k formation and the last ones died during the Horus Heresy, I'm actually okay with there not being a Gal Vorbak in 40k. I'd rather see some sort of "Invigored by the Dark Gods" Word Bearers-specific Stratagem, where Possessed can Advance and Charge.

I would love to see some slaanesh cavalry for EC. I’m not holding my breath, as it looks like cavalry are being dropped everywhere this edition (see: rough riders), but I have a converted fist/sword lord on a raptor I used all last edition as a steed of slaanesh who became so iconic in my games he had a name & backstory - and I’d love a reason to build him some friends and put them on the table.

I miss EC marines being a decent cc army. Between raptor cav and a palatine blades style unit I’d love to see a shadow of that return.

I just have to point out that the Sisters of Silence were gone by the time of the Beast, Roboute was killed after the HH and Lorgar went away. Yet all have or are coming back to 40k anyway. All those other 30k vehicles that were gone by the time of 40k, yet now got 40k rules as "relic" vehicles? The 30k AdMec stuff is getting 40k rules even!

Especially with Lorgars eventual return, there is no reason whatsoever from not giving the WB access to über-possessed in 40k. It requires much less space-magic to give the WB good possessed, especially compared to explaining how Roboute could return from the brink of death.

Just say Lorgar came out and told his Dark Apostles how to make better Possessed and we are done.

Black Legion: Bringers of Despair, not just as slightly upgraded terminators, but as a larger, more powerful units.  Basically a 40k version of AoS's varanguard, with stats like custodes or grey knight paladins, and daemonically empowered weaponry.  Plus some extra rules interacting with Abaddon, maybe Abaddon can pass wounds to them while they're within 3 inches, and they are treated as having all marks while they're within 3 inches of him.  Maybe let them move and charge as a single unit with Abaddon (so that they won't leave abby behind or vice versa on the charge), while still being treated as separate units for all other purposes.

Model wise, taller and much more elaborate chaos terminators, again, make them a 40k incarnation of AoS's varanguard.

Possessed are good though, they're 11 points per wound and average attack. Lets say that their mutations cost 5 points for the raw stats. That means for 17 points they get two wounds, a 5++, a possible 0 to 2 attack buff, and access to demonic synergies (including deep strike).

Word Bearers.

Gal Vorbak.

Possessed Dreadnoughts.

The ability to upgrade characters to Possessed.

Some form of super religousy Chosen unit.

Warshrine to the Gods.

Dischords.

Those flayed Angels/Daemons that are in the novels whose name escapes me atm.

Marduk.

Lorgar.

Emperors Children.

Lustwing Terminators.

Noise Marine kit with Sonic, Bolter, Pistol & CCW options.

The option to upgrade weapons to Sonics throughout the army.

Slaaneshi Steed riders.

Fleshcrafter - Some messed up Apothicary followed by his servitors.

Some form of Swordmaster unit.

New design of Sonic tank, or a new version of the Slaaneshi Knight.

Slaaneshi themed 'meatshield' unit, (personally I would go for Cultists covered in scars, fleshhooks embeded into flesh trailing bloodslicked chains behind them).

Eidolon or another new character.

Fulgrim.

I would absolutely LOVE Sonic weaponry everywhere, but what Emperor's Children really need (beside a new legion name, maybe^^ ) are _CC specialists_

And some kind of Apotecary character, probably

It was nice when our Icon gave us a FnP. Such a great opportunity to build some apothecary like characters for each squad. Now that we don't have it anymore I agree that an Apothecary like character would be great.

A proper CC unit is always welcomed as well. I'd like to see one on bikes with potential Doom Siren upgrade.

What, like Fabulous? ;)

I'd love to see us getting Apothecaries as a non-Legion specific unit.

Well Fabius is a special character and not even EC or Slaanesh anymore. :P

As Death Guard got it's tallyman and "alchemist" characters, it seems only appropriate to me that EC get their medic/drugs guy

As much so that I'm building my own Fabioulos primaris clone conversion^^
