Wondering if anyone has started a conversion for this guy wtih the modern range. I've toyed with ideas of the new beast of nurgle, some nurglings, and a bloat fly rider...

Anyone else considered what could be used? I

Epidemius works well with Daemon Engine heavy Death Guard. He has an ability that improves all NURGLE DAEMON units on the battlefield that gets better the more units you kill, which includes nifty things like Re-Roll To Hit Rolls of 1 and increasing the Move characteristic by 1". There are a LOT of Death Guard units with the DAEMON keyword, and most of them are pretty damn good so for a very minimal investment you can include Epidemius and some Nurglings (or just summon Epidemius) to provide a benefit to a large portion of your army.

Of course if you're not intending on using any units with the DAEMON keyword then he's pretty useless. I plan to use 3 Blight Haulers and between 3-6 Bloat Drones pretty regularly (I also love Forgefiends in my Chaos Marine armies) so for me he's a very good investment. I just hate that model!

I think Epidemius is better suited in an all daemon army or a majority daemon army, but in a Death Guard army with some daemons he's just not worth it. First bonus is reroll 1's, if your running drones with Plaguespitters they auto hit anyway. If your running a fleshmower or 2, a flying DP would be better. If you are bringing him for crawlers, keep a lord by them and have that bonus from the beginning and he can help with cc if needed.

For less points taking a Herald that can heal and cast smite seems more effective to me.

Having said that, I was thinking of using the new Spoilpox Scrivener as the basis for creating Epidemius.

I converted Horticulous Slimux as Epidemius or a Herald on Palanquin, not knowing what to expect from the new codex. Unfortunately, the Herald on Palanquin didn't make it but both Epidemius & Slimux did, so... he can be either.

Just discussed this with a mate of mine. The conversion is easier if you also happen to play Maggotkin of Nurgle in Age of Sigmar but without doubt can work easily in 40k aswell.

The upper torso and arms of this model are just an excellent updated excuse for Epidemius. The model is called Morbidex Twiceborn:

I think you could consider running the model as Epidemius as is or convert him onto a palaquin of Nurglings. If you do split up these models you can actually use the mount as a Beast of Nurgle or Giant Chaos Spawn.... Whatever you want really.

Conceptual idea for Epidemius:

The kit is more expensive as the original model but you get so many extras you can convert multiple Heralds/characters out of this aswell. The kit contains enough bits for 3 different characters who all ride this mount with additional unique bits.

Yeah there are more and more advantages comming to play both systems and converting models is certainly one of them. In general I think big fans of a particular Chaos God who also want to includ Daemons should simply give both systems a try. For Daemons you can use the exact same models on the exact same bases, it's wonderful and a breath to your wallet and hobby time really :D

I have an old old dude on palanquin, used to run him as a Herald on palanquin, but now it seems like only Epidemius is left as an option for CD now. Right? There is no option for Heralds on Palanquins right?

Though he could be a CSM Sorcerers on Palanquin from the Index too I guess. He seems to be more daemon than marine now anyway, so either goes. :)

I was planing on running him as Epidemius next time I fight though, and the buffs to Nurgle Daemons might not be too shabby in a DG force.
