The Guard aren’t the only ones with tanks - Fellblade WIP

Greetings brothers!

I recently completed a challenge where I painted a 2250pt army in time for a major local tournament. My reward for doing so was to buy myself a Fellblade. With some help from my wife for a Christmas present, I had this monster sitting under the tree. I’m supposed to be spending my hobby time on 30k at the moment, but I just couldn’t resist getting this thing built.

There’s no getting around it, this is a monster of a kit to build, principally because the experience of trying to get the tracks to work skirts the edge of PTSD. It does look fantastic once it’s all together though - easily my favourite looking GW/FW kit. That being said, it does look a bit... 31st Millennium. All smooth surfaces and no gothic bling. So I set out to 41st Millennium-ise it to suit its status as an irreplaceable 10,000-year-old relic. I’ve had this conversion in mind for a while and it’s fantastic to have it done.

I will paint this thing eventually - I’ve signed up to a 30k slow grow league though, so this will have to be put on the back burner for now. I also have some fluff for it half-formed - I’m a modeller first, so I tend to build models then write background to suit.

Anyway, enjoy!

KABOOM!

Brilliant model brother. A friend  of mine has two of these nasties and unfortunately, I "get" to see them on the tabletop on a regular basis. You're done a wonderful job of Templarizing this beast.

Bravo.

Hmm...I do not recall anyone from this forum authorizing a delay in delivery. Are you sure you aren't going to begin painting anytime soon? ;)

Thanks for all the kind words! But most of all,

"self-propelled cathedral"

this guy gets it. :D

The cathedral bits and burning censers/lamps at the front are indeed from a scenery set, specifically the Sanctum Imperialis. The wings on the angels come from Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard. The Templar cross on the pommel of the sword they’re holding comes from atop the banner pole from the Black Templar upgrade it. The biggest Templar cross beside the Angels is carefully cut out of the Black Templar upgrade kit Land Raider front hatch. The Campaign banner between the angels and the Lascannons is a resin 30k sergeant banner pole. The armour on the Lascannons (why they don’t come with armour is beyond me) is a trimmed down Rhino door from the Black Templar upgrade kit. The big archway behind the Lascannons is cut from the engine cover of a Baneblade (included as a spare in the Fellblade kit). The Templar icons on the front are another trimmed down Black Templar upgrade kit Land Raider front hatch. The scrolls, banners and badges come variously from the Land Raider, Rhino, Venerable Dreadnought and Black Templar Chapter Upgrade kits. The little ossuaries and relics come from Grey Knight Terminators.

Unfortunately the 30k army will be Custodes. One does not say ‘no’ to the Golden Legion. Not if one wishes to continue breathing, anyway. :P
