I have a lord of plagues for AoS, I really like the model and I would like to fit him in my new daemons army for 40k. I thought about counting him as a poxbringer, maybe swap out the weapon for a plaguesword and give him a plaguebearer head.

Would anyone have a problem with this?

It would depend on who you play with. The people I play with probably wouldn't care but I guess others would insist on having some conersion being done to the model.

The real issue would be the base size, if they have the same base size, I'd say: go for it!

For me, counts-as is always just a matter of clarity. If you tell me in advance that this particular model is a Poxbringer, then no worries. But...

100% this. You'll get a variety of opinions here but really, the only ones that matter are your own opinion and (if you choose to consider them) the opinions of the people you're likely to be playing against.

Remember that base sizes aren't actually part of the rules in 8th edition so you can stick it on the 40mm it comes with and that will be fine.

But the bases do matter, don't they? I can imagine more arguments between players about the size of the base than the model on top of it.

Well, using a bigger base size gives you a slightly bigger reach for your aura abilities, but it also means enemy shooting can hit you from a little bit further away, so it works both ways.

But there are no actual rules for what base size you should use, so it pretty much comes down to common sense. You're asking for trouble if you put an infantry sized model on a 60mm Dreadnought base, but using a 40mm instead of a 32mm for a Herald-level character is hardly a stretch, especially not when comparable characters in the Death Guard range (Tallyman, Surgeon, Blightspawn etc) come with 40mm bases as standard.

The Lord of Plagues came on a 25mm square base originally, so if you want to put him on a 25mm round at least you know he'll fit.

As to whether he's good enough for counts-as, I think it depends on how well he fits into with the other models, and whether or not there's any potential to get him confused with a different model in your force. If you give him a Poxwalker or PB head, and stick him on a 25mm base in amongst your other Poxwalkers, I can't image anyone would even think to ask what it's supposed to be.

Slight misunderstanding here I think; OP is talking about a Poxbringer, not Poxwalkers. Poxbringer is the new name for the Herald of Nurgle model so it'd be leading Daemons, not involved in Poxwalkers in any way.

(For what it's worth, the Poxbringer/Herald model comes on a 32mm base)

Halandaar is right, it's the herald of nurgle I'm talking about.

I would use the poxbringer base on him. Also add a plaguebearer head and give him a plaguesword.

I just like the model a lot better than I do the poxbringer one. Also, just in my own mind I could see the poxbringer being a step above the plaguebearers and maybe on his way to greater things, maybe somewhere between a GUO, daemon prince and plaguebearers. So he's bloating out on his rise to the top.

Just an idea and the fact I like the model. I would kitbash it to fit in.

Ah yes, I did misunderstand - thank you for the correction.

In fact, that just makes the argument for it being fine stronger to me - the 32mm base fits him better (it's what he's supplied with nowadays for AOS), and with a suitable PB head, I think he'd fit right in. I'd maybe see if you could add a little bell or two to his shoulder spikes as well maybe?

I've been under the impression that (at least previously), Heralds don't necessarily need to conform to the image of the minor daemons exactly. They seem to be subject to gifts of their God like any champion. So a rotund, bloated plaguebearer seems perfectly acceptable to me.

Yeah I see no reason this would be a problem, similar sized models, seems like one of those things that the only opponents who would have a problem with that cool conversion is the sort of opponents you probably don't want to play at all as they will argue over anything.

Looking forward to seeing the finished result.

I want to use some of the more Characterful solo Nurglings and convert for my Poxbringers. My Death Guard fluff is the Lord of Contagion who leads my army is a Neat Freak so has everyones armor, gear, and vehicles routinely licked clean by Nurglings. As such I want to field a small detachment of Daemons, two Poxbringers and 9 Nurgling swarms.

I havent figured out how I am going to model them yet. I was thinking of using Mr Sassypants and Lord Bravefart though. I need to work them to the height of a normal Poxbringer at least. I was thinking a pile of skulls for Lord Bravefart, and maybe a pile of Helmets for Mr Sassypants.
