MoGuy
With our codex soon coming out I purchased the Vortex Beast. However, I dislike GW's chosen paintscheme and I don't want to paint it Thousand Sons Blue like the rest of my army. Maybe you have some advice or inspiration to share? How would you paint this beast? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343762-alternative-paint-scheme-for-the-mutalith-vortex-beast/ Share on other sites

Nothing so far using TS colours from what I've found. I think I'll be using my Tzaangors skin/tentacles scheme and then my Rubrics armour scheme for the most part. The crazy ball of fire is where I'm pondering the most lol Prot, Thousand Eyes and Skerr 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343762-alternative-paint-scheme-for-the-mutalith-vortex-beast/#findComment-4994287 Share on other sites
The Yncarne
I would look to paint the beast itself in a muted tan/beige color. Then whatever that magic device on the back would be painted in a green and white setup similar to how GW painted the magic trails on Ahriman and the disk swirls. This approach puts the emphasis on the device rather than the beast itself. The beige/tan color is a good complement to both the green/white magic piece and the crystal blue and white colors on most of my other models. My sorcerers tend to use purple and white colors (these were used as one of the warband colors from “Wrath of Magnus” and date back to RT-era photos) and the green complements purple too. Edit: autocorrect shenanigans. bozo69pd
I am leaning towards painting mine to look like a pink/blue horror, with the fire portal on its back a flame color that matches my brimstone horrors. Skallagoose
i plan on something bright. To match my sorcerers. White skin with blue (glaze blue) shade. Teal/blue armor plates Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343762-alternative-paint-scheme-for-the-mutalith-vortex-beast/#findComment-4994701 Share on other sites
Skerr
Matching the color of my Tzangoors, and mutated sorcerer limbs, light grey, pink and blue shading. At least for part. Probably traditional warm flame colors on the vortex as i have a lot of extra orange flame bitz in my army. Will need to see if i can add my power armor color which is a cool (blue hued) white. Cool post zodd i really like the contrasting colors. Skerr
It could be though i think it might be a special effects paint. I have experimented with a purple/green shifting metallic auto paint on Necron vehicles and a prismatic gloss finish on some black Harliquin bikes and weavers and this could be a "glow" under certain conditions. It also could be jusy shaded and highlighted to an incredible degree w acrylics i really cant tell. It's awesome though! Minsc
Is that first one lit by LEDs? My bet is that it is, seeing as some very bright blue light seems to be "spilling out" of it's mouth. Looks weird. One eye is also much brighter than the others.
