Soder
Someone posted this on GW Facebook page the other day and I wanted to show it here: "New potential rule concerning the tournament scene to avoid it being dominated by mixed faction lists: "If your army has 1 common faction keyword that isn't Imperium, Chaos or Aeldari, you get 3 CP for having a battleforged army." This should restore the Mixed:Mono faction balance from 9:1 to something more manageable." Personally I agree. It doesn't necessarily have to be his solution but I think there should be some sort of bonus/reward for having a truly "battleforged army". Bypass the 50% deep strike rule if your army is entirely <Grey Knights>? Sounds like a good one to me ;) Discuss. Lol. Gentlemanloser
Well that screws the inquisition and assassins. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343954-mono-build-bonus/#findComment-4998904 Share on other sites
Lysere
That's a bonus I can fully support. The number of stratagems you can get by mixing factions is quite high, better to reward people who specialize. Also helps armies with less ability to spam detachments so they don't necessarily need to borrow some IG just to get a decent number of command points. Capt. Mytre
Well that screws the inquisition and assassins. Maybe certain units/armies ignore it or have rules that allow them to gain a faction keyword for battle forged purposes (wouldn't gain extra abilities/be affected by buffs/debuffs etc). Waking Dreamer
It's definitely a good incentive for players who want to stick to their own codex, while making their army a little more competitive, even without any changes occurring inside their codex. We need more CP to make use of our best stratagems more consistently. Holier Than Thou
This, if true, would be a welcome change. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343954-mono-build-bonus/#findComment-4999287 Share on other sites
STTAB
When I sent a feedback email to GW, I suggested a mono codex bonus as a future balancing mechanic. I'd also really like to see a re-roll to wound character. Having an interceptor character with re-roll to wound would really suit what I'm trying to do. 4ndroid 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343954-mono-build-bonus/#findComment-4999399 Share on other sites
Corvus Fortis
I think, when Imperial Agents arrive, they should ignore this rule. From the other hand, armies that already can bring a lot of CP will get even more. This could be a good idea, if only GW releases codex that could be used alone. I'm thinking about SoS, Inquisition and Assassins, but also some codex that don't have enough units to cover all the necessity. Gentlemanloser
Cap it. Say something like "mono build armies that have a CP of 6 or less gain 3 extra CP". To stop Guard just being Guard and getting an extra Battalions worth of CP on top of their two Brigades... Schlitzaf
It should be 7 or less. Because Battlelion + Specialty Detachment are common regardless of mono or soup. If start game with 7 or less CP your battleforged bonus is +6 (personally prefer +5. But ‘shrug) instead of +3. STTAB
I was thinking a special rule for mono codex armies like you get for battle forged detachments... An additional stratagem only for mono codex armies would be cool too. The weaker the codex the stronger the rule/stratagem. The issue is, GW would never officially claim that one particular codex is weaker than another. I don't see them putting a tier list of all their 8th ed Codex. That's admitting that some codex have more value than another. Who decides which army gets the stronger stratagem/rule? The same designers who created the codex / chapter approved? Whom about 4 out 5 times make decisions that didn't actually improve our GKs army anyway. TheCastigator
But GW is indirectly acknowledging that disparities exist through their corrections and points adjustments. Look at what they just did to Magnus. The game will never be balanced, but the fact that they are taking a more proactive approach makes me think that we’ll get a little help...eventually. Soder
There's a bigger discussion somewhat going on about this issue now. Check it out if you're interested. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343985-soups-and-8th-edition/ I agree with a lot of the comments there. Nothing is wrong with being able to take allies, BUT there needs to be some sort of benefit to a mono build and/or some sort of drawback to just taking cheap allies for more CPs! Plasmablasts
Inquisition could be given a “Chamber Militant” rule that allows them to be taken as allies of the appropriate faction for their Ordo, without sacrificing the bonus CP for being mono-Codex, I.e. Hereticus with Adepta Sororitas Xenos with Deathwatch and, naturally, Malleus with GK. I suggested something related in the Agents forum, to allow Ordo and “Chamber Militant” units to be taken in the same detachment without losing the benefits gained normally by taken a single faction detachment (e.g. GK still gain the +1 Cast/Deny if joined by Ordo Malleus Inquisition units). This is what I'm hoping for. I'd like to see Assassins either get something similar/be given their own detachment/an assassin can be upgraded to a 'HQ' choice, grants rerolls to hit of 1 aura or some other buff, so you can take them as a Vanguard detachment.
