Throwing around ideas for a dark angels ZM list, figured It should have a thematic name and narrative purpose. The idea is this is a cadre of warriors attached to a rouge trader fleet.

Dark angels: zone mortalis list 1000 points

ROW: Chosen Duty

HQ- legion delegatus Consul

Artificer armor, refractor field, volkite serpenta, melta bombs, master crafted power axe: 110 points

Troops- legion veteran squad

9 Veterans + Sergeant, 2 plasma guns, legion vexilla

Sergeant: artificer armor, power fist. 225: points

Troops- legion veteran squad

9 veterans + Sergeant , 2 melta guns, legion vexilla

Sergeant: artificer armor, power fist. 225: points

Troops-legion support squad:

10 Flamers (9 support legionaries + 1 Sergeant)

Sergeant: artificer armor, melta bombs. 190 points

Fast attack:

Tarantula Sentry Gun Battery: 80 points

Tarantula #1/ Twin linked heavy flamer

Tarantula #2/ Twin linked lascannon

Elites:

Elites-legion dreadnought (Castraferrum)

Flamestorm cannon, siege wrecker, armored ceramite ,  170 points

Did not know what to do with the last 80 points, figured Tarantula guns can be used at choke points to be obnoxious, in particular if we are using cold void rules.

I’d perhaps look at the two handed instant death sword on your herald. You get bonus WS for using a sword so your vets can pick up a blade and Melta Bombs for the same points as a fist. You’ll lose your AP2 but if you don’t call a challenge then you’ll be set to inflict some good casualties in combat.

I think the idea about the sentry turrets is brilliant. Especially with the random AP poisoning bolter rounds that you have access to. Or perhaps drop the sentries and embrace the dark ages that the legion take there equipment from and get a Volkite squad in there.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the way the Molecular Acid shell upgrade is written, doesn't it only apply to dreadnought and infantry, to prevent Rapier spam etc. Thought about adding melta-bombs to the vets, but since you have to upgrade the entire squad it gets expensive fast, so I choose a power fist instead.

Debating magnetizing the Consul so I can take a terranic great sword for those fun games against obnoxious taghmata lists, They are still +2S AP3 with instant death if I recall?

You’re half right. Dreadnoughts can actually take molecular acid shells on their heavy bolters and twin-linked heavy bolters, as can units with Legiones Astartes (Dark Angels). This is quite specific. Rapiers cannot take them because they have quad heavy bolters. Vehicles (other than Dreadnoughts) also cannot take them. Scimitar Jetbikes are particularly good here.

Also, DA Veterans can be really nice! They can take combi-grenades with stasis shells (at 15ppm) on every model, which are no longer one-use-only! Imagine 10 small blasts that drop WS and I by 1, wound on a 4+, and any 6’s To-Wound are AP2! :O

I reckon the Terranic greatsword is a must-take on anyone bar Praetors - it does something nothing else really does. Take fists on Sergeants/Terminators and Paragon blades on Praetors.

Basically, you have a pretty generic list here with no choices taking advantage of the Dark Angels rules. Add a few in at least! ;)

Interesting... does the stasis shell effect stack? that could be devastating against  "that guy" who insists on using the Shield captain with the rerollable 3++ save.

Maybe I'm not seeing something but the Terran Great sword is simply a +2 Strength power sword with instant death, That appears to have limited utility against 2+ artificer armor that everyone is rocking in 30k.

Nah, it doesn’t stack. You could actually just take 2 with the stasis shells (1 will hit for sure) and use regular combi-grenades on the rest of the squad. Saves you 40 points too. The Sniper Small Blasts are where it’s at! This is a pretty over-the-top combo, but it adds some Dark Angels flair!

I see what you mean with the Terranic greatsword vs. a power axe (or fist). But consider these benefits - hitting on a 3+ vs. other WS5 models, wounding MEQ on a 2+, striking at Initiative 5, still able to rock a boarding shield for defence, and finally... every failed save (from your 2+ To-Wound roll) will kill a model outright! Only Eternal Warrior will stop that, and it is very rare in 30k. A Paragon blade is better, even if it only ID’s on a 6. But only Praetors get them. And you’ll be surprised how often it happens and people fail their save!

Also, If you’re up against a player who regularly fields a Tankibune, have a chat with him on the side and suggest he only takes a 4++ with a re-roll, or a straight 3++? This game isn’t just about the best list or the strongest units. Narrative is very important to a lot of people. We all want to enjoy our games, and broken combos don’t help with that. A lot of people self-regulate, especially where Custodes are concerned.

Oh... The  regulation is in motion...  He brought a Shield Captain with the Praesidium shield to a "friendly" 1250 point zone mortalis tournament. It was kind of a one trick pony though, simply too few units to really control the needed objectives to win the game.

alternatively with regards to the veterans squads I could take a calibanite war blade on the sergeant give them all melta bombs and ditch the tarantula with the twin linked flamers. Would be more fluffy...
