‘They are ugly’ isn’t a reason, because 1. They aren’t, it’s an opinion, and 2. You can’t dictate someone else’s army on what you find ugly.

Being ugly is THE main reason not to take something.

Being not appropriate is quit as important to most players I know.

HH has a historically vibe to it, if you like it or not, and that is one of the most important things about it for many players.

Authenticity is the name if the game. :)

You don't have to play by it.

Of course not. But I'm just sayin'.

For me it looks to much of a 40k bike, oddly enough since they look way more like the old paintings of the custodian jetbikes.

No, that’s not my point. Of course if you find something ugly, you don’t have to play it. But you can’t dictate someone else’s army on what you find ugly.

Which is a damn shame.

I'll be using the GW dawneagles with weapon conversions exclusively. They are way closer to the jetbikes in the original Custodes artwork, and seeing as they are stated to have been around since the heresy in the codex the 30k vs 40k argument falls flat.

While the Gyrfalcon pattern matches the vehicles more closely, I've been a hardcore custodes fan since the old artwork was all we had.

I havent seen a size comparison of the gyrfalcons to these new ones myself but if its as far apart as some of the posters here say, id have an issue with it. Suddenly being able to fit these things into tighter spaces than they would normally go and get into fights they couldn't otherwise access is a major issue. I like playing on terrain heavy boards and sometimes that means you gotta make choices about movement cause the models dont fit.

The plastic kit simply looks a lot better.

If you think it does, all the better for you. I prefer the FW jetbikes' esthetics, both the marine and especially the Custodes ones, over the new GW ones. I wish they weren't so much more e p3nsive and so much more diffict to work with.

Gorgoff, I’m sure I’ve seen a picture of you using kastellans as castellax.....they’re pretty ugly ;)

:D

I wonder if it is possible to remove the Custodes from that jetbikes to replace them.

I whipped up a quick comparison (the scale isn't exactly 1:1, but it's close enough to be illustrative) of the different model sizes. As anyone can tell, there's definitely merit to the argument that the Gyrfalcons are much larger and cumbersome on the table. With a proper base swap the only actual issue stemming from this is the line of sight one, seeing as they're not using vehicle rules, but it can't be argued that it's still a major advantage.

That aside, I'm still going to be using the dawneagles because of the reasoning in my last post. In the end HH games are all about sportsmanship, and knowing the advantage these models grants me I'll make sure to compensate by not trying to maximize line of sight restricting terrain/allow my opponent to target them even if slightly out of sight. When it comes to any other aspect of the rules everything is measured from the base, which makes them equal in that regard as long as they're ran on 60mm ones.

Or blasts?

I remembered the Blast rules incorrectly, remembering them as the marker having to cover the base of the model. However that only applies to the initial placement of the blast marker, where the hole needs to be over the base of the model you're placing it on. So yes, it does apply to blasts as well, meaning that also has to be accounted for. Easiest way would be to make a template the size of a gyrfalcon in split hair cases.

Firstly thanks for all the feedback, opinion seems evenly split.

Having bought the set over the weekend they are lovely kits, a lot going on. They do actually come with 60mm flying bases in addition to black oval bases so that's one issue sorted.

With regards the smaller silhouette, they are shorter in length but wider face on. Neither pattern is easy to hide in terrain and the lances are very prominent, you could measure to that instead of bike for purposes of being targeted.

They do not match the aesthetic of the 30K Custode tanks like the Gyrfalcons but I shan't be running any so they won't jar.

I'm not spamming them for power gaming, i will only be running 3 alongside 5 custodes and contingent of sisters of silence as an annex to my larger wolves force, a sliver of gold in the grey. In fact i rarely game at all so the original post was perhaps unnecessarily divisive. I do dream of a large game at warhammer world one day though.

@Spinsanity, apologies for any offence caused.

@TompiQ that is exactly what I thought regarding the artwork, I'll be painting mine up like that, pity they didn't mirror the aggressive riding pose.

Not exactly on topic but does anyone know how the new plastic bikes compare to the FW Scimitar Jetbikes? I’m thinking of running some for my DA.

You are not getting a space marine on there unfortunately. The groin and abdomen pf the custodes is larger than a Primaris for comparison sake.

Thanks for the in depth feedback.

Are those drivers seperately?

I'm asking because, while still thinking that those drivers are way to big for those bikes, I think they would be nice for marines.

And I like the custodian drivers per se. They'd look great on the FW jetbikes. :)

Different base size (60mm circle on FW vs 75mm oval on GW)

Just for fun, Dawneagles do come with two different bases, the 75mm oval and old fashioned large flight bases.
I like better the new ovals bases though

I was thinking to put Corvex in 75mm oval too

I like better the GW bikes cause i never liked the scimitar/gryfalcon design (i think that the need by FW to make totally new 30K designs instead of following the HH artworks created bad designed units a lot of times)

About Dawneagle bikes and about all the remaining Custodes range by GW i Hope FW Will decide to integrate the new plastic kits in HH

It would be a bad joke if FW releases 40k rules for resin HH models but no 30K rules for GW models

Edited by Master Sheol

It could happen but let’s hope for the best.

Yes but this is such an ankward situation that FW and GW don't talk to each other and they end producing double kits that are and obvious waste of resources (in particular for FW that due to the departure of a lot of workpower to Specialist Games now are forced to release 1 HH/IA book every year or more)

Why? Forgeworld is porting their range because it's an actual range and not 3 kits.

There's also no need for a new jetbike or Terminator unit, especially since the existing stuff would just be better already, heavy power creep aside. Wardens are just Hetaeron
