A sequel to Double Eagle is on the way.

When I got my copy of Double Eagle signed by Dan last summer I asked him about Interceptor City.  From what he said was that essentially the launch of the Horus Heresy trumped IC from his itinerary when he was planning on writing it.  Then we have the publicized gaps, him being ill etc etc on top of the Horus Heresy.  What he said to me last year was that BL had asked for an aviation short story and his response had been, "cool and whilst I am doing that I will start researching IC".

Having said that, he is writing Anarch at the moment (although he told me on Saturday that he'd nearly finished it) and I can imagine that whatever he writes for the Siege of Terra will take priority over other series.

That's more or less what he told me at the Weekender - Anarch is underway, then it's a bit of a toss up between more Bequin or IC, though as you say I assume some HH stuff may take precedent.

Listen, I preordered that damned shiny red hardback Pariah back in 2012, thinking I'd rather not have to wait ONE YEAR for the paperbacks year after year. I already feel like a fool about expecting annual releases. At least The Magos ties into Eisenhorn vs Ravenor, and I guess Gaunt's Ghosts fans deserve to be caught up too. But.... I'd be mighty miffed and envious if Interceptor City made it out of Dan's writing lodge before Penitent! :dry.:

I'll be honest here; I'd rather have the continuation of the Bequin trilogy.

This is not to say I didn't enjoy Double Eagle, I enjoyed it immensely. Fun fact, I got my copy (years ago, now) from the bargain section of a bookstore near me. It's the old hardcover, and there's an internal misprint: the text on two pages are out of order - page 51 has the page 50 text and vice-versa. There's a little printed note in the book apologizing for the error (it blames Chaos).

The thing is, Double Eagle feels like a complete story in and of itself. It has a great thematic conclusion and still holds up excellently as a stand-alone story. In my opinion, it doesn't need a sequel, or a continuation, or an expansion in any way. Would I be averse to one? No, but there are other works, that were always intended to be parts of series, that have self-evidently incomplete narratives and hanging plot threads that have been languishing for years now.

I still haven't read the Bequin book... I think I got a couple of Chapters in and started doing something else and never went back to it. Worth finishing then I guess? :teehee:  I loved Double Eagle and I have read that a few times (I blame Star Wars for my love of dog fighting and flying things!)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had that misprint!  It really threw me!

I get the desire for the Pariah trilogy to be furthered (it's a really good point about DE being a closed story) but I am content to wait and enjoy whatever Abnett chooses to write next - I am just pleased that there are fresh releases from him for BL.

We can clamour all we want but that isn't going to influence his creative process when he gets the opportunity to decide what he wants to write next.  As above I'd imagine a HH commission will take precedent (although I suppose that depends on what story he will write and when it is needed).  I had thought that the release of Magos had been the result of Abnett working on a Pariah follow-up but that wasn't the case, it was the result of a BL request for another Eisenhorn short for an anthology.

Do we know when Magos was written?  In my head I have it as Warmaster, Magos and now Anarch (although I am aware that Abnett works on multiple projects at once).

I'll be honest here; I'd rather have the continuation of the Bequin trilogy.

I got the same misprint. I am excited if it does happen as it has always been one of my favorite books.

I was at a black library weekender in Dublin where he talked about it. Double Eagle was the Battle of Britain in 40k. Interceptor City will bea bit more sci-fi. It's set in a hive with air-battles and dog fights being fought inside the hive itself. The planes will be attached to buildings and walls of the hive like bats and swoop down attacking each other through buildings and gantries. Seems like a cool idea, although he did seem a bit stoned at the same time. I got to talk to him briefly about my book which felt like unlocking some kind of achievement in real life.

I hope they do another weekender in Dublin soon.

Planes attached to buildings and walls, attacking through buildings and gantries does sound like a cool gothic sci fi Warhammery idea..... it also sounds like Dan was pulling your leg. Anyway, I'll bet it was a lot of fun talking to him in person.

'Double Eagle' was a great read and I'll grab 'Interceptor City' in a heartbeat when it comes out, but 'Bequin' NEEEEEDS the next instalment. I read 'Pariah' about half a decade ago and the only thing I really remember is that it really NEEEEEDS a sequal. 'Double Eagle' doesn't need one, but I'll sure read it when it comes out;)

Just wonder if this rumour is correct, because I also saw a guy mention last week on the BL facebook page that Abnett said very recently that after Anarch, his next books would be the HH novel and then Penitence. Anarch must be finished by now so that could mean he is moving to the HH Novel soon.

I saw Dan at a signing in April 2018 and he basically said that it was Anarch then HH due to the pressures of the HH series.  (Coincidentally, the HH series starting was the reason why Interceptor City got pushed back in the first place).  I'd spoken to him previously about it whcih is in my post above, and now below

However, and I'd like someone else who was at BL Live to comment, during the HH talk with John French and Dan; Dan seemed to suggest that he had something coming out very very soon.  This could very well be Anarch but given that the Anarch news wasn't particularly secret (it was announced at the Weekender after all) I wonder if it is something else although it is more likely to be a HH work given the context and almost certainly not Interceptr City.

I totally want Anarch AND Interceptor City AND Penitent AND another HH novel AND THEN Pandemonium :-)

Just happy Dan Abnett is back in full on production mode and working for Black Library. Which order they come in doesn't really matter as long as they all come over the next, hmmm say 18 months LOL
