Crusaders and the Adeptus Ministorum

I recently picked up some models from a friend that’ll become crusaders. Now I’m thinking about a Ministorum detachment with, possibly Celestine or Jacobus, Chimeras to transport them. Does anybody have any experience using these guys? Advice to share?

Problem with Crusaders is bolters/lasguns/shuricats.

Weight of fire and their T3 means they go down pretty damned quickly to basic infantry and they cost a little much for that to not be painful. I know in theory they would be pretty damned good at fighting certain elite heavy infantry but in practice? Not so great.

If we are to be brutally honest one good use is to fill in elites if you need to unlock detatchments. A min unit is only 22 pts, but a junior officer can do the same for 20pts.

The poster above is right, they are a touch expensive but if you only have a single unit, they can do the act of faith often and they work wonders when buffed by psychic barrier.

They are 15 points each due to power swords being 4pts on top of their 11 point cost. Minimum unit is therefore 30points, so junior officers are cheaper for elite slots as well.

I have ran them before and they are fun if they can get into combat, a unit of 10 with a priest can butcher many units with acts of faith, but mass small arms fire will obliterate them.

Ten in a chimera with priest an psyker. Give them +1sv once out of chimera and they are 2++. With the priest you have thirty attacks at -3. Also you can bring one back each turn on a 2+. Or fight twice if needed.

I've been wanting to buy a large unit of Crusaders regardless of how good they are but I can't bring myself to pay $75 for 10 of them.  Are there any good alternative models?  Finding nice looking knights on foot armed with swords only is harder than I thought it would be.

I've made these from Anvil industries parts for my guard army

I kept the same heads as my regular infantry to keep the army cohesive, but used the armoured limbs and a medieval torso to make them look like future knights!

They'll be my next pledge for the trooping the colour once I have the last few pledged bits done

when it comes to things like Ministorum units i would say Jacobus is a bit overhyped while he has a unique weapon and the banner these can be easily offset by just a standard Company or Platoon banner and while it is a better stat line the standard Ministorum not only has nearly the same stats but has in place of the banner access to a wider verity of war gear and is a side cheaper then Jacobus.

The only other real upside to Jacobus is the Shield of Faith and honestly if you are using that you would already have a good number of anti Pykers already so i would say just skip him unless you need a HQ and if you are running him in guard you already would have plenty

For crusaders there are all kinds of kit bashing options.

I've done a mix of WFB Bretonnian men-at-arms bodies and shields with WFB Empire knight heads, Grey Knight power swords, and =][= etched brass symbols, but I've also done Cadian head, torso, and legs with a Bretonnian shield and a power sword from command squad for a crusader who looks more like a close-combat specialist from my regiment.

If you went the latter route you could use your regular troop for legs torso and head then use and Anvil Industry shield and power sword bits.
