Brad_hutcho
Just after some ideas on what people have used to represent combat shields (to be fitted on assault marines) and Phosphex bombs for a Lightning? Best ideas I've come up with are terminator shoulder shields I've found on eBay because they seem a good size. For Phosphex bombs, all I can find that may be suitable are some of the backpacks from either heavy flamer or multi-melta upgrade kits from FW. Anyone got any better ideas? Cheers :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344343-modelling-ideas-for-combat-shields-and-phosphex-bombs/ Share on other sites
Kinstryfe
Did you mean terminator storm shields? If so, they should work. I used them for a similar idea on some scrapped models years ago. If you mean the little heraldry shields that go on their shoulders, those are teeny... Too small? I looked at storm shields but as I play traitor World Eaters, I'd rather avoid anything with too much imperial imagery on it. I'll have a dig round though, thanks mate Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344343-modelling-ideas-for-combat-shields-and-phosphex-bombs/#findComment-5008741 Share on other sites
Lord_Caerolion
Yeah, the heraldry shields are minuscule. They'd cover the forearm, but that's about it. They're basically the same size as what you get with the Primaris/Grey Knights. Brad_hutcho
I'll dig round on eBay for storm shields, or maybe even some Warhammer fantasy ones that might work. I vaguely remember so Dark Elf ones that were flat that I could stick WE transfers on Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344343-modelling-ideas-for-combat-shields-and-phosphex-bombs/#findComment-5008749 Share on other sites
Lord_Caerolion
The Dark Elf ones are very elf-y though, they might stand out a bit from the rest of the gear, unless you do other conversions. Brad_hutcho
@Lord_Caerolion True. I've found some chaos warrior ones I may be able to clean up and remove the iconography from. I've assault marine combat shields too, and storm shields that I could clean up but only ever a couple per seller. I need 20 of them :-( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344343-modelling-ideas-for-combat-shields-and-phosphex-bombs/#findComment-5008757 Share on other sites
Lord_Caerolion
The Chaos Warrior ones can look awesome, I've seen a bunch of good conversions done with them. Brad_hutcho
Yep, and they could look very fitting on a MK II WE assault squad kitted out with chain axes :-) honourable mention, if I can find enough of them, Templar brethren combat shields scraped clean could look equally as good Now I've just gotta find ideas for Phosphex bombs Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344343-modelling-ideas-for-combat-shields-and-phosphex-bombs/#findComment-5008763 Share on other sites
Noserenda
Id avoid Stormshields just for confusion purposes. I used Warhammer generic shields but Chaos warrior ones would work too!(Also, if your Legion is one of the big 4 the drop pod spare icons are super handy detailing!)I had to sell my lightning a while back but it came with bombs/missiles, i was just planning to paint those tbh :) Brad_hutcho 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344343-modelling-ideas-for-combat-shields-and-phosphex-bombs/#findComment-5008776 Share on other sites

Gorgoff
For my Iron Warriors I ordered those as combat shields: https://www.shapeways.com/product/6R6KT3VYU/10x-iron-legion-aggressor-2-combat-shields?option=60513044&etId=180056016&utm_source=automated-contact&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=payment-received&utm_content=3 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344343-modelling-ideas-for-combat-shields-and-phosphex-bombs/#findComment-5008886 Share on other sites
Kinstryfe
Oh! Yes! There's one gut plate that's basically made for WEs. It would be perfect. Supe robot gangster #1
I’ll see if I can dig up my old world waters (long before the black books) that use them! If I even still have them! Laughingman
Second vote the shapeways stuff... Only downside is if the stuff you are buying gets caught up in a GW C&Ds (the planer more generic looking items are likely in the clear..) Maybe I'll post a pic of the build miniatures. SkimaskMohawk
My buddy actually used the tilt shields and painted them all energy-y. Yea they're small but theyre pretty much bucklers rules wise anyways. carlisimo
I’m a big fan of ML Shield’s round shields. They’re flat, but that’s the only downside. However… they don’t make sense on assault marines. They’ll save 1/3 of them but for the same points you can have 1/3 more bodies and therefore do more damage. ephrael
What about the shields from the IF Templar Brethren kit with the Maltese crosses shaved off. I would use the phosphex bombs from the Legion Destroyers kit. You can probably find them from bits sellers on eBay. They're already gonna be a full twenty man squad, I want them more survivable, since I'm going to be running them as part of an armoured assault/drop pod World Eaters army. For a turn or two until the reinforcements arrive they've gotta be more resilient Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344343-modelling-ideas-for-combat-shields-and-phosphex-bombs/#findComment-5009723 Share on other sites
