Alright,

So I decided to rip open my isolationist bubble and look around for an aura that would boost the effectiveness of the TS higher than normal rend, and specialization in Strength 5 shots/attacks, with Strength 6 Potential in melee. I remembered a Death Guard unit that dropped Toughness as an aura and couldn't remember who it was. Low and behold, Mortarion, a Primarch.

How unpalatable, I thought. After looking at things it became much more revolting for another reason. Mortarion drops Toughness and has a MW bubble. This amplifies the effectiveness of the TS drop in techniques with their melee Goats.

Mortarion, Ahriman, a Daemon Prince, 9 Enlightened with Bows/Spears for objectives, a heard of Goats, and 2 sets of 10 Rubrics rolls in at 1687. You could shave a few things off (10 Rubrics for example) and throw in Magnus if you wanted.

I really think dropping things down 1 Toughness would cause a incredible trickle effect for TS.

Enlightened with S6 from Chaotic infusion wounding what was T7 on a 4+, then a 3+ with VotLW is pretty significant. Follow that up with Inferno Bolters wounding what was T4 on a 3+, then a 2+ with VotLW and a -2 Rend. This raises the tactical viability of the Tzaangors further with the Mutalith.

Imagine a block of 30 Tzaangors into 10 PA, Zerkers or otherwise. We're talking 38 wounds on average against MEQ targets with Mortarion within 7". You can also see 30.78 average from 2+ to wound on T5 Custode with 9 Enlightened Spears, VotLW and Charge. 19 unsaved wounds to a MEQ unit with the AP-1 Tzaangor Blades and 10 unsaved wounds to a Custodes unit from AP-1 Spears. This can be furthered by Ephemeral Touch to 25 unsaved from Tzaangors on MEQ, or 15 unsaved on Custodes. Now apply Cycle of Slaughter and you've erased whatever you've touched, ie. multi-charged.

I think there is some top level potency out there but we've got to grit our teeth and dip a toe into the soup.

While Fatecaster Greatbow is excellent, I believe those spears should be considered as a response to nearly anything coming. I think two units (one of each weapon) will be a minimum in the future.

I made a list of Ahriman, a DP with Wings, Terminator Sorcerer with Familiar, Mortarion, 16 Cultists, 10 Rubrics w/Soul Reaper, 30 Tzaangors, 2 Shamans, a Spawn, a Mutalith, 9 Enlightened, and 9 Skyfires for 7 CP.

I feel like if you Warptime Mortarion with the Terminator Sorcerer and follow up with Webway for Tzaangors you're going to come out pretty far ahead. You could collapse a flank with Mortigorz, move your DP with Spazgors/Boats up the opposite to take out of position units or priorities out, then Ahriman, Rubric, and Cultists hold the backfield. If you're willing to drop a few things you can sub in another Rubric/Goat squad instead of cultists to boot.

What do you all think of this combo potential?

Edit: Pretty sure math is right, will have to re-read in morning.

Is there anything out there where Tzeentch has worked with Nurgle? I actually can't recall any at all.

The only thing is when Magnus assaults the Space Wolf galaxy he opens some portals letting the different demonkinds in to make havoc.  One portal was specifically Nurgle. I consider that using an enemy as fodder against another enemy.

That's actually the wrong question. Thousand Sons =/= Tzeentch and Death Guard =/= Nurgle.

At some time, and at some place, Thousand Sons would have fought together with the Death Guard, however to point out some examples of Tzeentchites or Tzeentch aligned working with Nurglites:

Be'Lakor

Horus Heresy - Horus

Horus Heresy - Siege of Terra

Horus Heresy - Legion wars/Scouring of the Sons of Horus

Abaddon

Archaon/every Everchosen ever

Time of chaos in the old world/Aenaerion.

At some time, and at some place, Thousand Sons would have fought together with the Death Guard.
