Guiltysparc
After the Custodes rules came out and they present as super elite combat beat sticks, I started feeling my inner world eater want to add them to my primaris ultramarines army. After all, the primaris units have been decent shooting but they very much lack good combat units. So, I've been noodling custodes detachments and this is what i've come up with. Option A - More synergy, more points Vanguard Detachment: --Trajann and an Allarus Shield Capt as HQ slots --3x Allarus Custodians, 1 Allarus Praetor with the -1 to hit Vexilla, 1 Regular Praetor with the 5++ to imperium Vexilla. Option B - Less synergy, less points Supreme Command Detachment --Trajann and 2 Allarus Shield Capts as HQ slots --3x Allarus Custodians I would pair the above with the same basic ultramarine vanguard detachment that looks, more or less, like this... --Primaris Capt and Lt --Intercessor squad --Redemptor --Primaris Ancient --Primaris Apothecary --Hellbasters --Repuslor The general idea would be to have the Custodes deep strike and begin assaulting everything (using the golden light strategem to get Trajann in there). The Primaris capt, Lt, and Ancient would hang out and bugg the hellblasters and repulsor. If i use option A, i'd put the regular Praetor with these guys giving them all a 5++. The Redemptor and Apothecary would work with the intercessors to secure midfield objectives. Have you guys thought much about combining these two armies into a hammer and anvil like this? I think it would be fun to play, but i'm a little leary of the abundance of characters, and i haven't tried the custodes yet so i'm not sure just how resilient they are. However, with all of them have 4+ wounds, T5, a 2+/4++, and lots of wounds, they seem like they would be pretty tough. I've also thought about trying to build a vangaurd with a contemptor and using the strategem on him instead, because who doesn't like deep striking dreadnaughts? That would be a vangaurd with 2 shield capts, and the dreadnaught instead of one of the praetors. Blindhamster
if i were to add Custodes to my primaris force (i may well do so) I'd add regular custodians or wardens plus a relatively cheap character and try and keep them points efficient, absolutely no need to go too character heavy with the Custodes. Blindhamster
Mostly as a melee unit for taking on elite infantry and MCs, possibly counter charge unit depending on composition for the rest of the army. They're more durable than the primaris, and do more damage in melee, I don't have the codex to hand so not sure exactly how i'd get them onto the table if i wanted them in my enemies face early on, but no matter what, I see them as something I'd want in relatively small numbers to not eat too many points from the primaris side of the force. Aothaine
I would go with the supreme command detachment and just take three of the captains on the bikes. Give one captain the relic that gives him a 3+ invuln. Their bikes are no joke. Gives them mobility and fire-power to support your Ultramarine line. I will be doing this for my Rift Stalkers eventually. Ishagu
Captain on a bike isn't worth it over 2 regular Jetbikes without the relic and warlord trait. Only one of them gets the survivability boost at a time. True but if you roll with three captains you can make the one with the relic your warlord and cycle through three of them to prevent your oponent from getting the Warlord VP. A bit chessey... but thems the rules. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344363-custodes-and-primaris/#findComment-5009311 Share on other sites
Dracos
Custodes and Primarchs? Take a few years off and the universe tears itself apart. ;) I really like the Primaris Jetbike conversions I’ve been seeing. They make the Primaris look even more badass. Not a fan of the other Custode models. Just too ornate for my taste. I think the Jetbikes would add a rapid reaction force that doesn’t have to come in on reserve that the Primaris player needs. Loving the look of those lances in a Primaris Marines hand :D Guiltysparc 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344363-custodes-and-primaris/#findComment-5009314 Share on other sites
Guiltysparc
What about putting a squad of reivers in to deep strike with the Custodes bomb? They could kill a few chaff models but, more usefully, use their shock grenades to prevent overwatch and debuff enemy shooting (-1 to hit imposed on the impacted unit). Dracos
There’s a guy at our local GW store doing a similar conversion. Also there’s some nice Dark Angel Ravenwing conversions out there :D Ahistorian 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344363-custodes-and-primaris/#findComment-5009592 Share on other sites
Blindhamster
Those legs look.. hmm. I do wonder if simply cutting up intercessor legs might have given better results Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344363-custodes-and-primaris/#findComment-5009620 Share on other sites
Dracos
I don't know about this one, it looks like a WIP, but the guy's at the GW store in Indy looked seamless almost. I like how the Custodes boots and gloves gives the Primaris a badass biker look. momerathe
I'm kind of expecting Primaris to get jetbikes of their own eventually, although whether they come with those spears is another matter. Deadlight
How would the inceptor legs go? They are already spread apart. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344363-custodes-and-primaris/#findComment-5010644 Share on other sites
