Welcome to my Praetorian XXIV WIP thread!

Today I received my box of Praetorians from Perry Miniatures and I've stuck right in with 5 built in the last 20 minutes.

I plan to get the first 5 guardsmen sprayed tonight so that I can begin painting tomorrow.

Thanks for reading,
Captain Titus.

Update on my Praetorians:

After 2 hours of work, I have completed my first praetorian model...

To my surprise, the models are incredibly detailed and definitely worth more than the money. If they were heroic scale I would never buy GW again.

(Sorry for the poor quality photos, all I have available is my phone but I will try to take better pics of the finished squad.)

Most of the Perry Miniature range is highly detailed - Alan and Michael sculpted for GW and Foundry for a long, long time - 40K, WHFB & LOTR. Both claim that they prefer sculpting for a realistic scale rather than heroic.

Well chin-chin, do carry on with your mud pies.

Looks like a good start - I have a huge fondness for the classic Praetorians in 40k, and have a good collection of them myself. :)

Do you have any plans to convert the Perry figures at all to make them a bit more "40k"? For example, using lasweapon muzzles on the rifles, or adding grenades and other Imperial Guard details?

What about Vox-troopers, special weapons, and officer weapons like chainswords and power swords/fists? I expect the smaller scale of the minis could make these tricky (as the regular 40k weapons are already pretty big for most official Guard models).

I look forward to seeing more of your progress!

Update time:

The second guardsman is complete, half an hour faster than the last one.

My progress is slow because I do not like batch painting models as I find it takes the fun out of painting warhamer and until after my exams I wont have much time for any more than one or two models a night.

Major_Gilbear:

I had tried using regular lasguns when I was building the Praetorians but they were far too bulky for the models. I definitely plan on adding some grenades after hoaking through my bitzbox and vox casters will be included soon. I am already looking for string to use as power cables to make swords look more like power swords.

For my bases I was planning on something similar to this:

I have placed an order for some crackle paint and more bases because I only have 20 left.

A 40k esq Command Squad would go a long way towards it :smile.:

You can always use 40K characters and add these helmets from Anvil Industry although the scale may be off
