Hi Arbiter7,

no problem, my process is as follows:

Basecoat -> Shadows -> Highlights -> Glazing -> Final Highlights -> Scratches

I do the glazing after all the shadows and basic highlights are applied.

Hope that helps :)

Hmm. Thank you but I am still a bit confused as this seems (to me) unusual.

Shadows presumably means recesses + flat areas that are dark, no?

Highlights means working toward edges ?

Glazing means over both shadows and highlights (but you seem to use separate glazes for each?) presumably this smoothens the transitions from the highlights earlier?

Final highlights = edge highlights?

Thanks again!

Yes, exactly. I use glazing to tonne down the transitions between shadows and highlights.

The whole more detailed process of painting primaris marine :

BASE:

I use a mix of caliban green / moot green as a base colour in ratio (2:1). I apply it in two coats to strenghten the colour.

SHADOWS:

1st shadow - mix of base colour with a drop of abaddon black

2nd shadow - previous mix with more abaddion black added

HIGHLIGHTS

1st highlight - mix of base colour with more moot green

2nd highlight - even more moot green added to the previous mix

3rd highlight - pure moot green applied on the edges

GLAZING

1st glaze - caliban + abaddon + lahmian (or other glaze medium) (into the most shadowed areas)

2nd glaze - caliban + lahmian (shadowed areas))

3rd glaze - caliban + moot (ratio 1:1) + lahmian (highligthed areas)

4th glaze - caliban + moot (ratio 2:1) + lahmian (highlighted areas)

5th glaze - moot + lahmian (into the most highlighted areas)

FINAL (EDGE) HIGHLIGHTS

1st highlight of moot + white (1:6)

2nd highlight of pure white (only on the very edges)

SCRATCHES

1st step: paint very thin lines of pure abaddon black in different elements of the armour

2nd step: underline the scratches with a mix of moot green and white (ration 1:6)

The apex has been reached. I've seen plenty of Lion's passing by on Facebook, but yours takes first place by a long shot. The others don't even come close. You turned a miniature in a legit work of art!

And man, those cloaks are magnificent!

One of the things I love most about your work, is that you never settle and always seem to be pushing your limit. I’ve always loved your work, and just when you seem to be at your pinnacle, you go and pull off something absurdly amazing like that effect on the tabards. Thank you for for all your inspiration. I’ve been in quite the rut lately, and seeing stuff like this definitely pushes me in the right direction :tu:

Love your stuff, and was hoping that you could post a link to how you glaze or do a short write up about the basics of your glazing. It's a concept to make and judging by your work, one that I should not have over looked.

Thanks.

Thank you Majkhel!

and back to work again. Next are:

30k Contemptor Dreadnought

40k Deathwing Bladeguard Ancient...

I feel like I am betraying the idea of terminator only company with this and next bladeguards but as my 40k army consists of only primaris marines than I have a little excuse here ;)

When I entered the hobby in 1998 I was overwhelmed by the 40k universe and all the possibilities that it gave you. I was divided at the beginning between Blood Angels and Dark Angels and couldn't decide which Chapter is better. Ultimately it was the history of the Dark Angels that strike me the most. The betrayal, the hunt, characters such as our Supreme Grand Master Azrael, Ezekiel, Asmodai everythinfg was perfect for my taste.

The only one thing that stood out the most from all of it was Lion El'Jonson character. There wasn't much information about him back then but still all the scraped information showed his character pretty well. His undisputed loyalty (never doubted in that!), dedication to the imperium, even his name, just everything about him caused me to utterly fall in the Unforgiven. Ever since then I dreamed of Lion's model and hoped that one day I will be able to see him !

and that time has finally come. I locked myself for two weeks, took some free days from work and started working on our Primarch. Haven't counted how many hours it took me to finish him but it doesn't matter. He is the First. The best Primarch ever. He is the Lion !

+++AS MUCH AS THE PICS ARE SPECTACULAR, IT'S BAD FORM TO LEAVE IN QUOTES HERE IN THE BNC BROTHER, SNIPPED+++

and now it's the high time for Him to finally wake up !

Holy cow this is stunning! That green cape is out of this world. Really well done!

Thank you InKaras !

well not much new to see here but I decided to take some pictures of all my Dark Angels that I painted in 2020. Did some initial work on bladeguard ancient and assembled contemptor dreadnought but won't be able to finish them in the coming weeks. It has been a good year nonetheless !
