Discord server?

Broken Halo

It's a big forum, so might very well be that I've overlooked it, but does this place have a chat option of some sort? Like a Discord server perhaps? If not, maybe it could be a fun thing to consider, to let the geeks mingle and chat and avoid work because it's Friday and I really don't wanna be in my office.

I can see why it could be a bad idea. I hate 8th ed, the Primaris and the whole Guilliman being the new acting Emperor fluff. I prefer the beer and pretzels style gaming and not the WAAC Tourny style of play. Now Imagine if we had a chat function and I had consumed a few beers, and I stumble across a (younger) Tourny player. It could easaily turn into 'you need to roll with the changes man, embrace the new and write tighter lists with Guilliman in and you will win'. Then my beer will reply with 'kid I have been playing since before you were a twinkle in the postmans eye, you are 40k'ing wrong, its not about winning but having a laugh with some equally cray mates'.

Its just safer if we didnt, if you wanna chat hit up Fraeter in PM's or start collecting the cool ones on Facebook like I do.

What StD said.

The frater on the B&C are a friendly bunch -- hang out here long enough and you'll start developing connections naturally, and all too often you'll start bumping into them other places online. The B&C itself, though, is a place laserfocused on the hobby, and with that comes the rules and regulations of the forum, which aren't entirely conducive to the carrying of the banner to other platforms.

Of course, if you are interested in Discord servers for the hobby for banter, hit me up in PMs and I can provide some invite links. Mind that the faster pace of chat can make people rash to post. It's a different posting culture, and there's a wide gamut of differences even among individual servers. But they're all full of good people and of good discussion, especially when an idea is only vaguely formed in one's mind.

I appreciate the honesty :) and thanks for all the feedback!

I will need to start some collecting on my own then ;) Although not facebook, because then I'd need to log into that damn thing more than once a year and I reheaheally don't wanna! Also I'd have to remember my password... >.>

I hate Facebook. With a passion. Both the platform and the company. As awesome as they are for the tech world, the rather... Controversial stance they have on the safety/privacy relationship is... A rant best placed elsewhere.

I also extremely like Discord. 'Tis nifty. They do good tech. A squee best placed elsewhere.

So I feel I'm in the same boat as Broken Halo with regards to wishing there were a little more 'on demand' (for lack of a better term) place for participation when you have the free minutes. I can certainly understand the reluctance and focus (and the dedication!) on the B&C being exactly what it is and not jeopardizing anyone's sanity by trying to reach beyond its success. I'm aware that the forum has befriending capability, PMs, status updates, and comes close to its own little slice of social media for those who invest into that.

So, while this is slightly separate from the original question, it is related: For those of you who have found it here, what suggestions do you have for slightly more real-time specifically 40k-related discussion?

I also hate FB but I've never used discord, doesn't it allow for users to be moderators so the chat doesn't get out of hand?

I'm not a big fan of real-time online discussions (I like the forum format much more) but I'm curious about what other people will suggest.

Yes there are moderators but did you ever moderate an active chat? Not all moderators are watching the chat 24/7 and when they notice something is going on the damage is often already done.

Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter

We could always start a discord server with the only affiliation with B&C being the ppl who are chatting. Butthurt would be a major prob at times butt it is the interweb and have never understood why ppl take things to heart that does not affect them in real life.

I am offended by your comment about being offended!!

Joking aside though, just imagine the arguments over (for example) Space Wolves promoting animal cruelty or gender politics in Warhammer, it gets pretty heated on FB and other places, I can see it being worse in a live chat.

Note, this is not me trying to bring gender politics etc into the topic in any way, just usng it as an example on subjects that could turn sour in seconds. Sooooo swiftly moving on...

Yeah, lets just lock the thread before I start making ETL jokes.

Well, that burned

I have made some lotion to relieve the sting, I made it from the tears of Black Templar players who found out the hard way only a Word Bearer knows the meaning of ZEAL!!!

+++EDIT+++

I'm sorry, I tried lol
