Tzen
So, yesterday I had my first game with the new Codex. Here is my list: http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/ts2000.png And a few pics of the game. I am a super slow painter, I literally built, or in some cases half built, the models to actually play a game. That's why I focused a lot on Magnus! :D http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/ts3.jpg http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/ts4.jpg http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/ts5.jpg http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/ts6.jpg http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/ts1.jpg http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/ts2.jpgIn the first turn he killed my Mutalith Warp beast. That was it really. In my first turn I killed 6 normal bikers and a shield captain biker. In his second turn he tried to kill Magnus, and then he basically conceded (and I don't blame him). My smite spam was out of control. It was a lot of fun, but it felt very powerful against his list. But he wanted to try out an all Custodes Biker force. In the second game he brought Four Culexus assassins and two squads of sisters of silence. It was a totally different game, much closer and he totally shut down my psychic phase. Just thought i'd share! WarriorFish
FYI, Battlescribe has a nifty BBCode export for lists which is much better for posting (under view roster) I had to do a double take on the number of bikers that's crazy in many ways! It does feel like a limited way of playing though and as you noted vulnerable to Smite. As for the second game... well, sounds a bit less fun. There's taking a Culexus or a squad of SoS to counter heavy psykers and then there's an army of nulls That aside your slow painting is more than worth the time, so your army will surely look fantastic on the table when all painted up Tzen 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344496-thousand-sons-first-game/#findComment-5012817 Share on other sites
Tzen
Oooh nice, cheers Fish, I will know for the future! :D I think the entire Custodes army is vulnerable to smite spam. I tried to take a fluffy force, but without some sort of anti psyker they really suffer, I am gonna use an Osiron dread from forge world as one of my daemon princes. Such a sweeeet model! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344496-thousand-sons-first-game/#findComment-5012818 Share on other sites
Raven1
An army of just Dawneagle jetbikes and anti-psyker stuff. I want to say it doesnt seem like a good army. There is something dont like about it. It's good you got him even without just filling an army with a bunch of cheese. I would apologize or fret about your like of painting. Everyone enjoys a different portion of the hobby the most. Jorin Helm-splitter
Custodes are such a weird army because its clear that they're intended to be an ally force. Reminds me of my Deathwatch who just don't have the tools they need by themselves. So it doesn't surprise me that your opponent would have to tailor in order to be competitive. Were you using the experimental smite rule? It may really help balance the games out if you weren't. P.S. I think what you have painted looks very good, and you shouldn't apologize for your pace. Scammel
I'm fine with your slow painting if it results in models as brilliant as those. The palette is very close to my own attempt at an old-school scheme, except yours is much better executed, obviously. Tzen
Ta chaps! Hoping to get more games in with this army, although I may be swapping some stuff in and out. I like that Tazaangors are in the codex, but it does feel more like Codex: Tzaangors than Thousand Sons. I may bump the rubrics up to 10 men, and drop the warp beast. This is painful, cos the warp beast mini is great, but it is pretty useless so far. Need a few more games with this list though to make sure. Oh and Enlightened look like a bargain. Tzen
Started work on this chap. :D http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/osiron1.jpg Gonan be using it as a Daemon Prince. Roughly same stats as a dread, but loads of pew pew psychics! Kite Senet
That is a *stellar* idea. I might just have to steal it, considering the Daemon Prince kits today look...a bit subpar to say the least. What model is that, anyway? I see a bit from SOT on the top. Tzen
It's the Osiron dread from Forge World. Pretty amazing kit to be honest! And steal away! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344496-thousand-sons-first-game/#findComment-5014234 Share on other sites
Scammel
You're a handy guy to have, Tzen - I'm often wondering whether particular ideas would work well for my own Sons force and then it consistently transpires that not only have you had the same idea, but illustrated just how amazing it could potentially look. Black13
Wow, your painting is phenomenal! I'd happily triple my painting time if the end result looked that good. Would you be willing to share how you do the gold parts? Mine always looks caked on and one dimensional even when attempting layering. Do you use GW metalic paints? Zodd1888
Regarding metallic paint: I nearly always dilute these down on a 1/1/1 with medium, water, and paint. I'll then build the paint back up gradually to the level it sits in my brush but I can still see bristles. I've found my metallics to be much better, but still not on God tier of above. Tzen
I use GW paints, and I always thin them down. :) I use Retributor Armour > Riekland fleshshade > Liberator gold > Stormhost silver. It really is a simple and effective method. You can go as crazy as you like with show piece minis, but that recipe above serves me pretty well for my troops and such! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344496-thousand-sons-first-game/#findComment-5017156 Share on other sites
