here's what came up today in game:

Titanic models can still fire while shooting if an enemy is within 1", just (in the case of a shadowsword at least) some weaponry only at the model in 1", while the others must choose a different target.

Overwatch says you may fire overwatch multiple times, however cannot fire overwatch if an enemy is within 1"

So....

Big monster charges shadowsword, eats overwatch and survives to be in combat within 1"

Next big monster charges, after first big monster ate the overwatch.

Can the shadowsword overwatch again, even when a model is within 1"?

It doesn't specifically say it ignores the restriction for overwatch, however it does say "when shooting" and overwatch otherwise follows shooting rules.

we played it that my monsters just kept getting shot all to hell... but what do we think the rule ACTUALLY is?

I can see it going either way:

1. Overwatch p.182
" A target can potentially fire overwatch several times turn, thought it can not fire if there is an enemy model within 1"
This is a flat qualifier if this condition is meet then no overwatch is fired, if this condition isn't met then the next sentence explain additional qualifier. Hence - NO OVERWATCHING

2. Overwatch p.182 + Steel behemoth
" A target can potentially fire overwatch several times turn, thought it can not fire if there is an enemy model within 1". Overwatch is resolved like NORMAL shooting( but in charge phase) and USES ALL NORMAL RULES and 6's to hit"
"This model may fire its weapons even while in close combat, but its heavy bolters/flamers MUST target a unit within 1" "
So if you think the Normal rules steel behemoth then you can overwatch the 2nd unit that charges BUT it can only use its main weapon/las cannons because the heavy bolter/flamers can ONLY target the unit that is with 1" now that a success charge has been made. Hence - OVERWATCHING BUT ONLY MAIN WEAPON

If a model charges and fails to get into bases to base contact with the model it has tried to charge, the charge has failed and the charger stays where he is.

Therefore the first model which charged and ate overwatch should not end up within 1" of your tank

If the second also ate the overwatch and failed its charge distance then it also stays put rather than moves forward.

Therefore the second monster will not be within 1" and affecting your overwatch.

However if you have let an enemy stroll to within 1" using its normal movement, then you have done something very wrong.

@Dantay VI - I think you've misread the OPs post or misunderstood the new rules for combat, you don't need to be in base to base, only need to be within 1". His example is Monster 1 charges, takes Overwatch and successfully gets within 1" so is in combat. Monster 2 then charges, does the Shadowsword get to Overwatch Monster 2 now that Monster 1 is within 1".

@ Jack Shrapnel - From the rules snippets posted, I think you are correct. It can Overwatch Monster 2 but only with it's main weapons, no Flamers or Heavy Bolters.

sorry... let me clarify... the first monster successfully charged after surviving overwatch so is now in base

question is does the second monster get overwatched.

The problem is steel behemoth rule doesn't make any mention of ignoring any restrictions for overwatch.  First point of who can declare overwatch is a model without an enemy within 1".

I played it in game so my opponent had the advantage (thus no hard feelings for my opponent should they lose the game) but afterwards I was trying to sort out what the real rule is. Sadly all the FAQ's do not address this, and GW hasn't responded back yet (but I'm sure they will right? lol)

The important thing to keep in mind is the being able to fire weapons even with enemies within an inch doesn't even limit it to just the shooting phase. So while my gut instinct would be to say no I believe the Rules as Written support being able to fire the main weapons in overwatch anyway.

ah it appears that for the LVO they said no, and although they gave the caveat "not official until GW officially says so" they did say you can confidently expect these to be the answers when the FAQ is released (and given they're the playtesters it's pretty sure - given they were right with the daemon ruling being FAQ'd that way in this same podcast)
