Hi Everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I am embarking on a project to get a 1200 point army ready for a local tournament, and decided on Ad-Mech for a different challenge to power armour. I am hoping a project log (and perhaps occasional battle report) would be a good way to keep the motivation and inspire me to complete my goal. I have until the 3rd March to complete. Here is my progress so far:

Rangers

Enginseer

Robots

Dominus

As a side to the painting, I have been really drawn into the background of the adeptus mechanicus (especially after reading Master of Mankind) and so have started working on some fluff for my own forge world, Xephyrus, which I hope to share soon.

More progress to follow!

I love your scheme and I think it's very well painted. Have you considered adding some more accent color to help it pop a little more? With a bunch of bodies on the table it might look monotonous. But definitely keep at it!

Thanks for the constructive feedback. I had considered a spot colour, but I wasn't sure what would work with the green/blue hue. Any suggestions?

I really like what you've done.... if I were to add a colour, it would be a higher contrast to the blue.. not another shade of blue, something green/green-ish. I think the coils of your guns are set up for this perfectly. Great looking start though! Keep it up. :tu:

Hi All,

First of all, thanks for the feedback. I can see what you all mean about an additional spot colour. I think green would really pop, especially after seeing how the grass looks in the next batch of photos. After the event on Saturday, I will go back and add a vivid green for cables, pipes etc.

Here is the next wave of finished models:

vanguard1

rangers2

destroyers1

destroyer2

destroyer3

Not long to go now! Thankfully, I just have 5 Rangers, 5 Vanguard and a second dunecrawler to finish.

So here is the final force. It is done for now, but when I work on them again I will add in some green or possibly orange spot colours to liven it up. Anyway, here it is:

Full force

A quick rundown of the tournament then. It was a three game, 1-day event. There were 16 participants, 1200 points, 1 detachment per force, no LOW. The overall winner was decided by victory point difference (i.e. your total of VP across the three games, minus the total your three opponents scored against you). The first round pairings were decided by army power level, and a swiss system was used thereafter. The majority of lists were strong, but nothing like those typical of the bigger events, mainly due to the restrictions in place I would imagine.

Game 1: vs Iyanden Eldar. A wraith-heavy list containing a Wraith-seer, Wraith-lord, rangers, two units of wraith-guard (one choppy, one shooty), a fire prism and a wave serpent. I won first turn, then was seized upon! A good start. I also made a deployment error and left a small area on my flank for the wraith-guard to emerge from the webway and nuke my robots. Their debut was shortlived! It was an uphill battle from there onwards, but I made a game of it. Vanguard are heroes, a unit of 10 deleted a wraith-lord in one turn (thanks in part to some shocking armour save rolls), and Onager Dunecrawlers are tough with all the fixers around. It was 7-7 at the end of round 4, very close and exciting game. My opponent had to defend an objective to take the win, and unfortunately I couldn't remove the wraith-guard unit holding it so he took the game 10-8.

Game 2: vs Ultramarines. A unique list, with Tigirius, Chronos in a land raider crusader, 2 predators with lascannons and lots of tactical marines. A surprisingly tough list, especially when the land raider was T9 thanks to psychic powers, and Tigirius' Master of Prescience making it -1 to hit! A close run battle, and when my opponent scored all 4 objectives with some clever manoeuvring to score Domination, it looked bad at 6-2 at the bottom of 3. However, achieving the objective left him open and I killed the majority of his remaining units, and drew well on the cards. Turn 5 really took a turn for my opponent when I finally cracked his land raider (with a cognis heavy stubber of all things!) and it exploded, taking half a dune-crawler and the unsuspecting Tigirius who was hiding behind it. He didn't see that coming! The game finished 9-6 to Admech.

Game 3: vs Black Templars. A very close combat orientated list, I felt a bit bad for my opponent as I seized the initiative and just shot him to pieces. He had some veterans and terminators which arrived via deepstrike. One unit of veterans were wiped out by interceptor and then overwatch against Skitarii Vanguard. The terminators made it to combat, but the skitarii fell back and the Destroyers laced them with plasma. It went rapidly down-hill for the Templars, and he was tabled turn 4 with the score 9-2.

Overall, I finished 5th which I felt, after a shocking start, was pretty good especially as I had never used them before. The event was won by a Khorne list featuring a bloodthirster and lots of bloodletters, with a sisters list (very cool list) and a guard infantry squad brigade list in second and third respectively. The event was great fun, competitive but still friendly.

The list itself was pretty good. The Stygies VIII dogma is very good, I would like to try out the other dogmas as I think there might be some strong synergies there, but lack of playing time is a hinderance. The Vanguard are incredibly versatile and punched way above their weight. The Onager Dunecrawlers are powerful too, and I was surprised at the resilience of everything but especially the Destroyers. The shooting is incredibly powerful, especially the destroyers and robots together using the Elimination Protocols stratagem. They were combining to do most of the heavy lifting, and the loss of the robots in the first game was a big contributor for the loss - I built the army around that combo and I should have protected it more. The biggest down-side to this list is lack of mobility.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to improve the mobility? Infiltrating fist-robots? Sicaran Infiltrators? Ironstriders? The next event in July is 1500 so there will be room for a few more toys!

Congratulations on your victories.

Are your Skitarii blue to camouflage themselves, or to honor the forge world they serve? I keep feeling something's missing on the Onagers' bows, i.e., unit insignia, Legion numbers, maybe a scoreboard to count how many enemy tanks/flyers/Knights/Titans the crew killed?

Your main color is blue you do not want to use green as the spot as your mixing a warm color with a cool and it can be off putting.  You may want to consider a purple that may do well to complement the blue it will provide contrast and not disrupt the feel of the color.
