Berzul
(WARNING: Use of a variation of a word that could be considered offensive at the end of the post. Readers discretion is adviced)Yesterday I fought a friend's army of Death Guard in a small 1000 point game. I was running 3 tactical squads, a veterans squad, a dreadnought, two champions, an IC and a Librarian, with 2 razorbacks for transports. My opponent had a plagueburst crawler, some pox walkers, a couple of plague marine squads, a helbrute and a defiler (with a soul grinder being used as proxy because he dislikes the actual defiler model). Hidden Content I got first turn. I walked some tactical marines up the manufactorum on the left, then drove up both razorbacks. The one on the left had 4 veterans with combi plasmas in it, the one on the right had the two champions and both hqs. The army heading straight towards the helbrute and defiler, while my other tacticals tried to take down the other flank of the chaos force. Hidden Content My opponent then answered by moving forward and trying to blast me off the table, before charging in to crush me to bits. Although he missed most of his shots, I quickly realized that my vehicles had pretty much no chance to last another turn, once the charges got in. Hidden Content And, indeed, the helbrute smashed the first razorback to pieces in one flurry of blows, while the defiler managed to reduce my other razorback to two wounds. My only option? Drop the melee units, and fall back... just like I had planned to begin with, hehehe > Now I had the beast right where I wanted it. While my veterans reduced the helbrute to a single wound with their overly overcharged plasma guns, my champions positioned themselves for the charge that would take out the defiler with their S+4 blades of caliban! (thanks to Fury of the Lion). Hidden Content I gave it my all. First, my IC with Eye of the Unseen reduced the beasts leadership to 6. My librarian then cast trephination, getting a 7 on the cast roll, and then a double 6 on the powers roll! 6 mortal wounds, right from the start. Then a smite for good meassure, giving it another wound. My tacticals followed, getting in no wounds, but claiming the charge and taking in the overwatch to keep the champions and IC safe! A single marine went down during the charge. The rest got locked in. Then came the Champions and the IC, and with the Crozius Arcanum, and both Blades of Caliban getting in.... 6 more wounds in total!By this point, the beast was still holding on to a spark of unholy life, by its single wound left. But, my valiant forces would not give up the fight until the beast was done...! Hidden Content And so, with one final hit, the last remaining wound was taken, and the creature was vanquished! And who was the brave solider who managed such a feat? Who was able to kill the monster that the Interrogator-Chaplain, the Librarian, and both Champions had failed to destroy? Who got in the killing blow that saved the day and caused my opponent and I to fall on our butts in such shock to such extent we called the battle right then and there before going for a beer? Hidden Content This guy! The most humble and courageous of all of the Emperor's servants, the Tactical Marine... after this battle, he was granted command over his squad as Sergeant, with his name being engraved into the noble records of the chapter. The mighty Biggus Dickus, vanquisher of already-pretty-much-defeated beasts of untold horror! Glory to the Emperor! Ashen Sabre
Such a tactical marine deserves the highest honors of the chapter, for felling a mighty beast such as the Defiler. Not only defeating it with combat blade and boltgun butt, but succeeding where the heroes of the chapter have failed. The name truly reflects one of the greatest qualities. Also, recommend marking him somehow visibly, to tell the story of this brave marine to all whom it encounters Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344670-how-a-model-gains-its-name-really-short-battle-report/#findComment-5017101 Share on other sites

Berzul
I'm thinking of makeshifting a biiiiiig purity seal and placing it right in between his legs. Red-seal down. Kasper_Hawser
Hi Berzul. sorry but need some clarification. did that tactical squad with Big Dickus charge the defiler or the Hellbrute? from your picture, it looks like Big Dickus was sitting in a ruin and shot one of the two with his bolt gun. But it sounds like you killed them in close combat. So again, which did he kill, the brute or the defiler? Berzul
They charged in through the catwalks, loosing one Marine to overwatch (im writting it in that the one who died was the old sgt of the squad). They jumped down to ground level with their charge roll, and engaged the Defiler in hand to hand combat. Everyone else attacked first, and reduced it to 1 wound. I then rolled the attacks of each tactical separately, for dramatic effect, and indeed managed the one wound remaining. They then repositioned back into the building, closing in on the helbrute. Xenith
You should consider giving him some...appropriate heraldry as a reward ;-) Or just paint the normal chapter icon in flesh coloured paint? I had a solo tactical marine survive a round of combat with about 20 orks. I told my friend if he kills one, he gets a name and a promotion. This is Squad Leader Kren. Kasper_Hawser
Wow, that is a GREAT idea! I can give him a banner! Now now, remember you are a Dark Angel, not a Blood Angel or Space Wolf. You are neither a pretty vampire marine nor a bombastic viking. You are of the stoic Dark Angels, showing pride and glory is not really your thing (just my fluff perspective based on novels I read involving Dark Angels, even those written by Gav Thorpe, shudder). Some purity seals or maybe one of those DA blings from the upgrade pack will do. If you follow the smurf codex convention, a different colored helmet is enough to denote veteran status as well. come to think of it, what Xenith did with his model was cool in the sense his helmet vox section was darkened to make him more menacing. Probably more simple as well to simply repaint the helmet. Probably more simple as well to simply repaint the helmet. All of that squad have black faceplates in honour of their lost brothers. Kren isn't a veteran, just a squad leader, he got the banner, ork glyph and additional layer of highlights for killing that ork. The above battle honours would look great. Even something like a golden gauntlet, or vambrace or something would look great against the green. Chaplain Raeven
When someone gets named with something like Biggus Dickus, then you know the fight was of epic proportions. It's how my dread became Smashy McSmashface after being known as Ragnus. Now Biggus just needs some larger danglin' bits to demonstrate his spheres of steel. Maybe 2 round braziers with the tube one. Kasper_Hawser
I think the only time I named my models was a particular plasma gunner which I simply called Santa Plasma. He didn't particuarly do anything but just so happened to be a plasma gunner with the look and beard of Saint Nick.
