Things You Like About... Scars

I think Guilliman would’ve been more interesting if he had also seriously considered ditching the Imperium and ruling Ultramar independently. But yeah, it’s a nice touch for some of the loyalists to be closer to being allies of convenience. It’s common enough on the other side.

My take on Scars is that the Khan was compelled by his oath to the Emperor to look for a reason to stick with him, and found it after talking to Magnus’s shard. He’s not a fan of the Imperial Truth, but he’ll take it over working with daemons. If Horus had rebelled without the Warp’s involvement… dunno, the White Scars take those oaths seriously. But I could see the Khan turning if he thought his legionaries were going to be culled.

Gotta love Jaghatai's en mass fleet sized middle finger to the Alpha's when they kick it into gear, freaking awesome!!

The chisel is the best scene in the book. Void battles tend to be boring as hell to my taste, but this one you can picture vividly. Wraight did a great job.

Kind of off topic, but I think it would be cool and fair if the 40k universe includes more of an Asiatic feel.  The universe is indeed a diverse place; people of all ethic background has a foothold, and has received some screentimes.  Of course, it comprises mostly of Europeans, Caucasians (people from the Caucasus region), a good amount of Africans, and Arabs, but not really any Asians - besides in the form of the White Scars.

I just though it would be cool for their to be more Asiatic characters and stories amongst the overly dominate Westerners.

Pre Corax Raven Guard were almost entirely asiatic.

There are a lot of Arabs and Africans (or Arab/African analogs) in 40K?

I actually feel there are more obvious Asians...White Scars, Nagasena, some Astropaths. There was an IF chaplain called Lo Chang.

EDIT: I genuinely feel more infusions of non-European cultures would add to the galactic diversity. There are so many worlds in the galaxy...so GW/BL could really go crazy with it. I think it would fit the setting, and I think it's already been done to some extent.

The portrayals of the World Eaters in Betrayer and the Black Legion series shows many of them as black as well. Word Bearers are meant to be basically Space-Babylonian too, with the Thousand Sons being a kind of mix of Egyptian/Mayan/Aztec.

Imperial Guard have the Tallarn, as well as the Kanak Skull-takers (based on the name, possibly meant to be referring to the Kanakas, who were Pacific Islander). Vitrian Dragoons from the Gaunts Ghosts series are vaguely Indian-themed too, or at least they seemed that way to me.

White Scars, Nagasena, and some astropaths.  Good start, but its not enough, I want more!!!

I am hoping for something like an Asian Imperial Guard regiment, or a Knight house (where they will actually call themselves a dynasty, rather than a house), or even an Asian Inquisitor.

... Oh.  I forgot.  The Emperor is Asian.

Why does it matter one way or another what chapter has what skin color? It’s a science fantasy literary universe tens of millennia in the future. Not only should skin tone and culture not matter, but you can literally make up whatever you want in your mind when reading or modeling.

For the same reason Black Panther is being so well received amongst black communities? Without trying to be inflammatory, it's easy to argue that representation doesn't matter when you're the default setting. We see basically every other culture IN SPAAACE!, but when it comes to Asian cultures, they should just pretend? Nah. GW's stolen enough stuff and shoved it into space, we can do it with more non-White cultures.

upvote. seconded. this.

It’s hard to say that culture doesn’t matter when you’re talking about Space Monastic Knights, Space Patricians, Space Doughboys, Space Mongols, Space Vikings, Space Teutons, Space Draculas, Space Florentines, Space Mycenaeans, Space Gladiators, Space Romans, Space WWI Germans, Space Egyptians, Space Gangers, Space Zealots, Space… dunno, they’re all straight copies of Vulcan/Hephaestus, Space Maori+ninjas, and Space Assassins (using the historical term). They’re often based on specific things that aren’t from tens of millennia in the future.

(Don’t take my list too seriously. I just wanted to try to be complete.)

But even then, 90% of that are Space White Guys. Even the Space Maori are all albino, with the maori stuff only getting added by Forge World, and the only Space Black-Guys, when you look at what their culture is, are summed up as "dunno, we like fire, I guess?"

Well,

to do some advertising: the Brotherhood of the Lost got an African themed Legion, the Predaros (see link in my signature) :P

Further,

The War of Light project got one as well.

Worth of a read for those interested. ;)

Honestly while i can see how people would want this, based on how GW handles most cultures/ethnicities i say careful what you wish for.

That said the best of BL tend to not drop the ball to hard, so i could see BL books ( which are already THE source for female characters) the place to address this kind of desire. Imperial guard/army would be the best place to do it in my view, just make up a new regiment alla Vostroyans but with a suitable Asian backround insparation water it down so it has mass market appeal and off they go.
