Hi guys

Just a quick question that i cant seem to find that answer for on google.

I have the books:

Tallarn

Tallarn executioners

Tallarn ironclad

tallarn witness

In what order do i read them? I though tallarn was the first of the books written (but that doesn't mean its the first to read)
Might seem like a silly slightly noobish question but help would be great.

Also what books feature perturabo? I have the tallaran books, angel exterminatus and crimson fist (my fave so far to feature the lord of iron!)

I know obviously the primarch series perturabo but is that worth a read?

Thanks

EiS

The chronological order for all the Tallarn-related books is as follows: Black Oculus, Tallarn: Siren, Tallarn: Executioner, Tallarn: Ironclad, The Eagle's Talon, Iron Corpses, and Tallarn: Witness. The primarch series Perturabo was one of my favorites in the Primarch series, it's well worth the read. No other books featuring Perturabo immediately spring to mind, but if you like the IVth legion, than you would very much enjoy the Iron Warriors omnibus. It's one of my favorite 40k omnibuses; Storm of Iron was especially brilliant. Hope this helps!

Do you mean Tallarn the numbered book in the series? I think that presents the entries in order? However, Black Oculus is in the War Without End anthology and Eagles Talon & Iron Corpses are in the Eye of Terra anthology.

ah nice maybe that's why i haven't found them! thanks guys. are they integral to the series?

I've only read Tallarn Executioner so I can't comment too much. However the Tallern hardback is basically one whole arc of the HH story. Whether it is integral, I'll let others say.

For me, however, Tallarn was always a part of the HH story I knew, so I'm looking forward to it whenever I get to.

Helpfully, we have an actual timeline in Tallarn: Executioner, so we can accurately place most of the stories around the event (using real-world months just for ease of reference):

April 30,010: Initial bombardment (start of Executioner)

June 30,010: A surviving astropath is discovered beneath the Crescent City and a distress call is sent out (Siren)

August 30,010: The Sapphire City falls (end of Executioner)

November 30,010: Fall of the Eagle's Talon (The Eagle's Talon)

November 30,010: Battle of Iron Corpses (Iron Corpses)

January 30,011: Third attack on the Sightless Warren (start of Ironclad)

May 30,011: Battle of Khedive and the traitors withdraw (end of Ironclad & Witness)

Black Oculus is the only one that doesn't have a clear placement, due to the nature of the story. But since the narrator in it says he's on Tallarn at the time, and since it serves as something of a prologue to Ironclad, I'd put it there.

As such, I wouldn't agree with the order shown on the 40K wiki. I'd say it's:

Executioner > Siren > Eagle's Talon > Iron Corpses > Black Oculus > Ironclad > Witness

"Tallarn" itself is a collection of some of these, though Eagle's Talon, Iron Corpses and Black Oculus are found elsewhere, as RFD says. If you mean are those integral to the Tallarn story, not really, they're more side-stories, but I'd say they're good reads/listens.

As for Perturabo, I'd say his Primarchs book is a must, it's my favourite of the series so far. There's also a short audio for him, Stone and Iron, and he has a role in Magnus' Primarchs book too.
