Ulrik_Ironfist
I have a bunch of Marines from the Betrayal at Calth Set. I also have a 2nd Contemptor, a land speeder, a sniper scout squad, a Stormraven and 2 Stormtalons. I really like Raven Guard, but with my Imperial Guard consuming most of my efforts, I really would like to focus my RG on covering what my IG cannot. What thoughts do y'all have? I really like Inceptors, and Rievers, they seem to make the best use of RG tactics and Shrike. At the same time, Inceptors aren't a CC unit. I like Jump Pack troops, but what uses a jump pack that's a good CC unit? Race Bannon
To answer the last question: Vanguard Veterans. There are A LOT of threads in this forum that discusses this unit relative to loadout and deployment ^_^ Firepower 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344760-expanding-my-raven-guard/#findComment-5019274 Share on other sites

Deep Strikers that are good at shooting: Inceptors, Vanguard Vets with pistols, drop pods filled with vets or devs(they shoot well just not for the cost of a pod). Deep Strikers good at CC: Vanguard Vets with Claws. Firepower
Best to keep in mind that "good" assault units in C:SM are not equivalent to "good" assault units from several other codices. I wouldn't recommend you go throwing Vanguard at Berzerkers willy-nilly. But yeah, Vanguard are nasty by our Codex's metric, and with all their options they're born to eat up your magnet supply Do you lot make use of Terminators much? Assault Terminators can hit like a truck and take a beating, but they seem kinda slow for a Raven army. Schlitzaf
Just to expand on Fire, our Assault Units, are less push and more “KillingBlow.” A Unit like Berzerkers come in and soften the enemy, forcing a retreat. Vangaurd come in and finish the job, taking out a depleted enemy. It’s secondary assault not primary. Basically think of Vang this way. After the enemy force is depleted and you have exchange resources. You drop Vangaurd to finish the job. As Vangaurd being only Marine level durability, cannot take the counterblow so you want to deploy them in a scenerio than the counterblow cannot exist. It’s the 2, of the one-two punch. Looks like I'm going to invest in a few vanguard vets, and some inceptors. Would inceptors be good at charging a unit to finish it off after shooting it up? What about charging vehicles? In a straight up fight between VV's with claws and chainaxe zerkers, whoever fights first is going to win but zerkers do a lot more damage to a wider range of targets thanks to their sheer weight of attacks and superior strength. But yeah.. Vanguard vets are the best we got. Just don't expect miracles. Ulrik_Ironfist
What about regular assault squads with jump packs? Do they just not cause enough wounds? Claws and Effect
What about regular assault squads with jump packs? Do they just not cause enough wounds? 2 attacks at S4 AP0 D1 vs 3 attacks at S4 AP-2 D1 that rerolls to wound. And Vanguard have the option to take thunder hammers.
