So I was looking into the map of the 40k universe and I'm trying to decide which Astra Militarum force to use in conjunction with my Salamanders Primaris. I saw that the home planet Catachan is relatively close and so was Tallarn. However, Tallarn doesn't have a very large range. So I think I am going to go with Catachan.

So now that I've decided that I want to build a small detachment of these guys to work in conjunction with my Salamanders. I'd like to stay under 800 points if possible as I was also thinking about adding a Deathwatch Kill team Patrol Detachment as my third detachment which will use a terminator captain with the Deathwatch relic to move the Kill Team into position. This will only be if Kill teams end up not getting the ability to deep strike with their codex.

Is it possible to get an infantry division with some heavy support squads into around 800 points so I can work this list in with my Salamanders and Deathwatch?

Catachan are a great ally for salamanders fluff wise. They have both been involved in the battles for Armageddon together. Also the catachan are quite well known for their tanks. I think many people got confused by the death world codex back in 3rd. That codex represented a more specialist stlye of army that the catachans bring to the table. However many sources of fluff describe the combined arms of the catachans fighting.

Hey there and welcome to Catachan!!! I've loved these guys forever and the codex has really helped them be AWESOME!

For 800 points you can get a lot out of guard, really depends what you are after and then you just flavor for taste. A quick 812 point list I just punched into battlescribe is

Batallion <Catachan>

HQ: 2x company commander

Troops: 4x infantry squad (with autocannons in each squad)

Heavy: 2x Basilisks & 2x Leman Russ Battle Tank with main battle cannon and lascannon hull mounted

Pretty compact and provides some solid armor and anti-armor to the board. Again flavor to taste, salamanders love flamers, well so do catachans! Want some more indirect fire, get some mortars in there. Want even more armor, ditch those infantry and grab a tank commander or 2 and get a spearhead. Really its up to you in how you want to augment your force. Good luck and have fun!!
