The_Stray_Idea
Hi all. I am looking for some feedback on a list. I am looking to build a black shield list. With the idea that they can port into loyalist or traitor as needed. The basic premise is no matter the cost. So the naughty weapons are definitely a go. Phosphex ect. I have taken gene bulked for +1 S and T with reduced charge run and no sweeping. HQ Reaver Lord, cataphractii armour, master crafted halo blades, Volkite, and digital weapons. His attacks are only AP3 but S8 at initiative and T5 should make him a scary prospect to face off against. Previan, 2+/5++ Volkite pistol and a thunder hammer, 3 castalax with darkfire cannons, flamers and power blades. Enhanced targeting and frag. Elites 2 Apothecaries with power swords that will support the breachers. 10 cataphractii terminators, Volkite all around with 2 plasma blasters, grenade harness, lightning claw and chain fist mix with a thunder hammer on Sargent. Spartan transport flare shield and ceremite. Troops 2 20man breacher teams. Pariah bolters all around, thunder hammer on Sargent and 4 Volkite. Heavy support Leviathan combat and siege drill, Armoured Ceramite, Phosphex and Volkite. This should leave me with 2998pts. Not sold on the Leviathan but any feed back would be awesome. Stray. Fangbanger
very small unit count do o would probably look at adding in more so you have multiple threats. Levi if combat orientated needs a pod really Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344882-3k-black-shields/#findComment-5023191 Share on other sites
Caillum
Yeah, agreed. You could easily drop 5 Breachers from each unit, and even a few Terminators - S5/T5 makes everything massively tougher/fightier, so you won’t need max-sized units. And if you are going for Chymeriae Breachers (that like to get charged), why take Pariah bolters that are only useful when charging? I’d stick to standard bolters and take Pariah flamers for special weapons - much more effective. Giving the Leviathan a pod is really helpful, but the problem is that Blackshields need to take a Kharybdis (Limited Resources rule). Alternatively, taking a storm cannon (with your volkite) helps it a lot, as it has more ranged threat. Definitely give the Apothecaries artificer armour (better 10 points than a power sword if you need one or the other). A dozer blade on that Spartan will be the best 5 points you ever spend, trust me. Your Castellax are kitted out a bit more than I like. I’ve crunched the numbers and ETAs are not actually worth the cost. Your loadout is also a bit unfocused - long-ranged anti-Tank with short-ranged anti-Infantry. I’d go for Maulers, flamers & power blades for melee, or just Darkfires for ranged. If you want to push the prohibited weapons, why not take a Siege Breaker instead? Then you can grab some (admittedly OP) phosphex Quad Lauchers or Land Raider Achilles... The_Stray_Idea
Hi guys, Thanks for the feed back. The unit count was a bit of a worry so I am trying to find a way to address that. I am currently looking at assault pods as a viable way to get on objectives quickly. The apothecaries have been amended to get that 2+ save it’s definitely worth more to keep them alive that have them punch a mook. As you have mentioned Phosphex is a tad OP so with that and the castalax not being the most effective set up I might look at running ad mech allies instead. I will post the list later. Thanks all for your feedback so far. Anymore is always greatly appreciated.
