Ulrik_Ironfist
Because I have an extensive collection of Space Wolves, I figured I'd try to get them in some Games. Thing is, I really like my IG, and I need some CC support. What is the viability of Paired WC terminators in this edition? Should I? How should I take them? Patrol Detachment with a Blood Claw Tax? Karack Blackstone
What roles do you need the Space Wolves to fill in your list? If you need all-rounder warfighters, clearly, Grey Hunter packs for your Troops tax. If you need a strong assault capable unit, then clearly, Blood Claws, for a Troops base. Maybe one of each, and figure out how you play, and then adjust from there? TDA WG are facing an uphill battle with all the 2+ damage weapons, on low wounds models. TDA WG without a 3++ seem vulnerable; that typed, what do you need your TDA to do? TDA WG and Blood Claws both seem to greatly benefit from a LRC delivery method, as opposed to footslogging it across the board. While Grey Hunters in Rhinos or Drop Pods seem to be far less viable, having an LRC with Blood Claws, one or two Grey Hunter packs, and a possibly deep striking TDA WG pack, the options start to form as to what you might need, or at least, I hope. LRC is Land Raider Crusader, if you need to see it typed out. So, what do you need from your Wolves, when supporting your Guard? Both have roles to play; larger packs tend to last longer, and while 5 man packs seem to be a fast and cheap option, any combat losses on any morale tests seem to be extra vulnerable when compared to a 10 strong pack. Anyway, food for thought. Ulrik_Ironfist
So, I'll be using them to cover down on my Imperial Guard. My Cadians shoot really well, so I really don't need more shooting. I really need a turn 2 beta strike to turn my opponent back. I was thinking that a pair of deep striking TDAWG wolf claw squads could be used in my opponent's back line to just lay into his infantry. Meanwhile I use BC's to be a melee screen for my guard. That in mind, the theory is that while my cadian squads will advance slowly from the rear, moving in to hold ground that my Kasrkin (Stormtroopers) take. The BC's would leapfrog past the Stormies to assault anything that might want to assault my Stormies, and the enemy units would have the TDAWG to contend with trying to fall back. While this is happening, my knights* and tanks could pound vehicles into submission. I have a pair of punisher vultures which would also be able to tear into infantry as well. It's mainly about establishing layered board control, while being able to force my opponent to commit his melee squads to deal with mine. *I'm thinking big games, since I like to play big with my Guard. Kasper_Hawser
If I may suggest, have a vanguard detachment with multiple small Wulfen units. As infantry, they can then use the strategem Cunning of the Wolf in order to outflank from any table edge, with 1 CP per unit. This will either make your opponent spread out to the table edges to avoid the Wulfen coming in at the edge, or just box them in for you to blast them with your artillery. Not sure if you can use the strategem if your primary detachment with warlord is IG though. FYI, Wulfen can advance and still charge with rerolls, and have a 5++ feel no pain. Also has respectable 7" movement. Fairly cheap as well, and even without weapons, their claws are S5 AP-1 so can hurt things at worst 5+. Rune Priest Jbickb
Wulfen are pretty good and synergize well with blood claws. Another fun option is sky claws as they are highly mobile and can deepstrike if you like. Ulrik_Ironfist
I have 30 Blood Claws, 10 WC TDAWG, 5 TH/SS TDAWG, a unit of TH/SS TWC, 9 or so Skyclaws, and 8 ish JP PAWG, and that's what I have for CC. I do not want to add anything to my SW, as I'm currently planning to downsize my entire collection of Marines. Rune Priest Jbickb
Tgen I would play around with the jump pack guys and maybe a terminator squad as they are mobile and pretty decent in cc which should compliment your somewhat slower, shootier, guard.
