BlackTriton
Hey guys, Here I will post some pic of my death guard, along with my current tournament "goal" list. I think I got the color scheme right where I want it, but I'm clueless about the bases. any advice for a swampy look is very welcome. The list is meant to be a tournament list, even if it is not a Top-table kind of list. it is only meant for me to learn the game and get used to the ITC missions. BlackTriton
NURGLE DAEMON BATTALION 3CP Poxbringer shrivelling pox Poxbringer fleshy abundance nurglings x3 nurglings x3 nurglings x3 Plague Bearers (20) Banner / Instrument DEATH GUARD BATTALION 3CP plague caster miasma of pestilance / blade of putrefaction Chaos Lord plague marine (5) 2x plague launcher / 1x plasma gun plague marine (5) 2x plague launcher / 1x plasma gun plague marine (5) 2x flails / power fist / 2x double knife -rhino 2x combi-Bolter / havoc launcher -foul Blightspawn -Biologus DEATH GUARD OUTRIDER 1CP daemon prince Double Talon (10) / wings / Arc contaminator / Suppurating plate / Blades of putrefaction blight hauler multi-melta / Missile L. / bile spurt +/ g. maw blight hauler multi-melta / Missile L. / bile spurt +/ g. maw bloat-drone 2x DeathSpitters / plague Probe bloat-drone Fleshmower / plague Probe Here is the list. Nurgle Daemon are here for board control, depending on match-up 3cp will be burn on "Denizen of the warp" for the pox Bringers and plague bearers. Each Shooty plague marine squad as a blight hauler assign. they are here for objective holding + fire support. The real threat is the Daemon prince, two bloat drone and the rhino, moving forward with the daemon appearing mid table. they combine nicelly and hopefully can take out priority target. I made sure there would be multiple target for Blade of putrefaction : Fleshmower drone, melee plage marine, daemon prince. the rhino allows the Blightspawn, biologus, plague caster to get into position. Im not sold on the melee marine, but since I do own the model I will test it. I did consider droping the melee marine and plague bearer for more bloat drone, pox walker and a few cultist. I do like the heavy psychic phase, though the spell note here are subject to change. I want to like the blight hauler, but PBC would probably outperform them here. its a crime that a plageburst is cheaper than the blight hauler. So, what do you think? Skeggold
Overall looks like it will be fun to play with. Melee marines are ok, I've found that unless you get the right rolls with the flails it can be a bit of a nightmare to whittle down hordes. Against Orks for example, you may have a hard time thinning the numbers before they throw a ridiculous amount of attacks at you. Blightspawn is awesome, everyone I have played against with him seem to run in fear. I am thinking that some poxwalkers could really help you in this list, as you don't seem to have many expendable units apart from the daemons. And, if you're going to deepstrike those in, your enemy will suddenly have a lot less options to shoot and those vehicles/ plague marines make for tasty targets for any multiple damage weapons. PMs suffer against these particularly as they only have 1 wound, and against a high AP multi damage weapon you can find yourself failing quite a few disgustingly resilient rolls. I am thinking that swapping one blight hauler for a plagueburst is probably a sound idea, as you won't get the bonus to hit with just two haulers anyway. I would also consider taking two squads of nurglings instead of three, with more bases in each unit (for survivability against multi-damage attacks that ignore their disgustingly resilient roll) Just some thoughts! Your models look great as well, so keep up the disgusting work. Prot
Love the little Nurglings holding the flag stick or whatever. What a great touch. The Plaguebeaters look great too. A very eerie look and nice contrasting colours. :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345106-tournament-and-hobby/#findComment-5035895 Share on other sites
Checkmate77
My personal favorite is the tentacle keeping out from underneath the hatch to man the combi-bolter. Nice use of greenstuff. Sheesh Mode
I find that MSU plague marines are most effective when they begin in Rhinos and kept cheap while focused on mid-range combat. To that end flails and the like are dubious luxuries on marines that will not see assault until turn two at the earliest. Plague Marines are practical. I suggest getting more rhinos. Good point, I am looking into finding another rhino from a friend. In the meanwhile transportation is always complicated, so I magnetised some bases using magnetic tape. Its not drop proof, but makes it easier to move thing around. Prot
That’s great. A friend of mine did this and got a metallic tray. When we go to the store that’s whe I’m always jealous of his ability to simply slap the army on a tray and put it on his car seat and go. BlackTriton
I updated my intended list I am working around with the choices of troops and the inclusion of the Blight-Hauler. One idea was to replace the Blight-Hauler, some plague marine and the poxwalker for another rhino, a BPC and maybe some plague drones. NURGLE DAEMON BATTALION 5CP Poxbringer Poxbringer nurglings x3 nurglings x3 Plague Bearers (20) BANNER (15) INSTRUMENT (10) DEATH GUARD BATTALION 5CP Plague Caster Chaos Lord BaleSword (6) Poxwalker (20) Plague Marine (7) 2 Plague Launcher (20) / Bolters Plague Marine (7) 2x Flails (20) / Double knife Chaos Rhino 2x Combi-bolter (4) Biologus BlightSpawn DEATH GUARD OUTRIDER 1CP daemon prince Double Talon (10) + wing blight hauler multi-melta(27) + Missile L.(25) + bile spurt(5) + g. maw (0) bloat-drone 2x DeathSpitters (34) + plague Probe (25) bloat-drone 2x DeathSpitters (34) + plague Probe (25) bloat-drone Fleshmower(12) + plague Probe (25) Edited the list. Prot
I think that’s a supe solid foundation to work from. You’ll be able to play a wide variety of opponents and you’ll have room to grow. BlackTriton
Finished the Blight spawn and my chaos lord! Also, I have been working on an alternate scheme. I feel there is quite a few repetition in Deathguard kits, even the plague marine box is not that customisable. I will be using this sceme mostly for the melee plague marine, and then for repetitive kit like Bloat-Drones and blight hauler. This scheme was heavy inspired by a few other painters on this forum, so thanks y'all. gitface
For the bases have you seen the PVA and Superglue trick where you put plenty of PVA on the base then drop Superglue on it, might give you the look your after. This is what I have done for my army but in my case I did a handful of different sized bases, made a mould and cast them in resin, just need to stop being lazy and get my guys painted up and stuck down. BlackTriton
Here are some pic of my latest work for papa Nurgle: I intend to have some Black/blue units mixed in randomly, like mold spots on bread. I heard a lot of good thing about the Plague drone, Im gonna give them a try in my next list. Also, I registered for a local tournament (my first one :) ) Im really looking forward to bringing some plague to the table. Lord Malnatt Evilborn
Nice work and nice list! I suggest to you two things Increase Plaguebeares to 30 (20 and you lose -1 to hit with only one dead) Drop the blight-hauler for PBC or helbrute with lascannon and missile launcher (you can move and shoot with no penalty thanks to DG trait) I don't like marines without Rhino One question, Bloat-drone with fleshmower is good? I mean hitting only 4+ does not convince me Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345106-tournament-and-hobby/#findComment-5091248 Share on other sites
Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
Oh, WOW!! The new scheme is seriously good. Dark and sickly green, always a good choice. Your painting looks really nice as well!! I mean hitting only 4+ does not convince me getting more plague bearers is on my to-do list, but here my plan is to Denizen of the warp them, and 20 cost 1CP while 30 cost 2 CP. I will try a 30-man list though. I Would trade the B-H for a PBC, but the model has proven hard to come by, and is a lot more expansive. furthermore, I want to give a chance to the B-H. I use plague marine to wall other stuff in my deployment and then to stand on objective. since what I am buying here is their toughness, I equip them simply with bolters, there is never enough bolters in a list. Finally, I the flesh mower drone did not stay in the list long, I favored plague drone instead. I will post the current list soon, along with more image of my newly painted Blight-Hauler.
