I have been thinking of picking up one of the assassin models to add to my Space Wolves army. Has there been any fluff or instances where Assassins have worked with the Space Wolves? If so, which ones?

Fluff aside, which one do you think works best with our army? I have been eyeing the Eversor Assassin as he is crazy in melee and good for clearing out swathes of light infantry. I also think the model looks great and his rules make him a blast. I have seen him on the field a few times against my friend who plays Grey Knights so I feel I may have a bias as I have seen it in action.

I've been debating this VERY subject

The things I read say use multiples because the synergy makes them even more powerful as a team

Callidus (potential to screw up stratagem combos by making them more expensive) (can also kamikaze someone and deny invuln saves)

Everson (send it after MSU squads on an objective with no support.  Earns more than his points back in this fashion)

Culexis (does anything really need to be said for it?  1 new trick is use it as an objective sitter.  Who wants to fire at it and try to remove it?)

Doing it this way also lets you sneak a CP from Vanguard

Don’t forget the culexis is immune to any “heavy” weapon like powerfists / thunder hammers.

All attacks are resolved as if the user is ws 6+ and then the weapon does a -1

Same for heavy weapons...so she’s great for tying up groups of nasty things.

Callidus, Culexus, and Eversor are all solid, I think. I'd put a priority on the first two, because Callidus assassins can just run your opponent out of command points, and Culexus are great at taking way too much firepower to bring down.

Haven't had much experience with Vindicares in 8th but I don't see them being very interesting.

I started off by getting just the Eversor Assassin as I do not have a stand in character for the Vanguard Detachment to field three and I always have enough CP to spend one of bringing the drugged up maniac. I tried it in a test game against a friend versus various units and I found that if it can make combat against light infantry (cultist equivalent) he absolutely shreds them. Anything else is a little more dicey as he does okay against MEQ and against TEQ it is very unfavorable. Also, I never knew he had a melta bomb! That was hilarious as he went near a dreadnought, stuck a melta bomb on it taking it down to 2 wounds, and finished it off with the power sword profile when he charged.

I usually take a cullexus, they are irritating, can shut down psychic and smiting (if he is the closest unit, smite cannot go off since he is immune to psychic powers) and are a pain to kill (just keep them away from auto-hit weapons)

Any assassin can be useful with a Space Wolves army - it just depends upon the composition of the army and whether you want the assassin to fill a gap or to enhance a strong element.

From a lore perspective, the assassin doesn't necessarily "work with" the Space Wolves. While such cooperation has doubtless occurred at least once throughout the history of the Chapter, the more likely scenario is that the assassin happens to be executing a mission that happens to correspond with the action of the Space Wolves. Maybe it's happenstance, and maybe the assassin is taking advantage of the presence of the Space Wolves. Throughout ten thousand years, assassins from each of the orders of assassins has found themselves on the battlefield prosecuting their missions alongside the Space Wolves Chapter.

So there isn't a need to justify the presence of the assassin in the Space Wolves army.
