Played a small 50 something PL game with TO. I gotta say, GK are so boring, bland and weak in comparison to all the flavor and power Death Guard have. That bell decimated us turn 3. Between that and the plasma guns from DG marines, my troops and few pallies got killed before seeing combat. Worse, that bell made a bunch of guys run away. I felt so outclassed and outgunned and outflavored. I did have way more objectives at the end of turn 3 but it was all luck of the draw and I can’t imagine surviving another turn. I think I would have gotten tabled turn 4 for sure. That DR save they get was so useful.

Something feels really off with GK honestly. They feel nerfed to hell.

The codex is super bland. Very little in the way of fluff to rule conversion. No chapter traits aside from the minor +1 to cast/deny roll. This is only about a 10% increase chance of success for casting IIRC, and only truly effects denying and smite, due to our powers being GK only. There should have been 8 Brotherhood traits, as each fluff wise has distinct flavour to them and could have brought a lot of variation to how GK are played.

GK have a number of issues, things such as only really being able to be played one way, which is basically DS + shoot + charge - which results in a super easy counter of just screening and DS denial. Units being vastly over costed, inefficient rules wise or role overlap means there's even less to choose from than what's presented in the codex. The units themselves lack customisation, very few units have upgrades aside from lacklustre special weapons and mono-choice melee weapons.

I'm fairly disappointed in our codex release and subsequent treatment, especially with the newer codex releases. Even then, I think GW rule writers aren't particularly creative. We're seeing a lot of reuse of rules across the game, especially in the "chapter tactic/regeiment" area. 7th edition had far more interesting rules and depth.

The march update is the next potential change, but we've been left out of any updates since our release, so my hope is for the rerelease of our codex in a year or so.
