GuardDaddy
Looking at building AM army and also keen to stay married... so been looking at the best (cheapest) way to do this. Of course resale sites like ebay very useful but wanted to see how discounted I could get new models. Thought I'd share my findings - hope thats OK (admin?). No amazing trick here, but was interested to see how much of a discount you get. Two biggest discount sources I could find were online retailers that sell up to 25% off GW store price. The second is the army box options (battleforce and start collecting). I have simply combined these two (buy army box from non GW online retailer) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oU95cQHx-2zI3BX9fsxXxI__8IsXiLJYHq_ZVM5WZ5g/edit?usp=sharing Method is simple - find best online price for individual parts - add them up - compare to box price. That gives you a box discount. Interestingly cant find anywhere online that discounts the battleforce box more than 20% Once you have box discount you apply that to different units in box to see what their relative cost is if they were seperate. If you buy a box from online discount retailer, the saving per unit compared to buying from GW direct is about 47%. Downside of course is that you might not want all the stuff, if that's case erase commentary above from your mind..... or find buddies that might want the other stuff and split cost between you. Or, if you are an ebayer you can offload parts you don't want. If you buy from ebay - numbers may prove a useful benchmark for you in terms of determining value of deal offered, lots of the stuff being sold is resale of unwanted stuff from these boxes. choppyred 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345155-building-cheap-47-off-new-guard-models/ Share on other sites
choppyred
Great work, have you factored P+P charges in to your sums? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345155-building-cheap-47-off-new-guard-models/#findComment-5029576 Share on other sites

GuardDaddy
@choppyred - no - to variable - though for all uk sites I used in research it was free above £80 @colonel cross - sorry - just UK based - though not sure why pricing model to internet stores would be different in US. Unless GW UK sells wholesale to stores cheaper in uk. I included the just GW costs in though and you basically save a third buying box over seperate units Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345155-building-cheap-47-off-new-guard-models/#findComment-5029750 Share on other sites
duz_
GW US changed their retailer policy last year, just before 8th dropped. The change was that retailers could sell GW product directly through an online webcart, however discounts are now limited to max 15%. There are definitely plenty of US based GW retailers that offer the 15% discount and generally offer free shipping on orders $99+ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345155-building-cheap-47-off-new-guard-models/#findComment-5029882 Share on other sites
tychobi
Gw models are tough to find at deep discount. If you have more time than money than creative use of greensuff and plasticard can produce usable scratch built tanks. Infantry can be sourced from a variety of places cheaply and special and heavy weapons from shapeways work well. I have a fair amount of scratch built and repurposed models in all my armies. Would be cheaper to buy new if i paid myself for build time however. . . Well not the ork stuff Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345155-building-cheap-47-off-new-guard-models/#findComment-5032111 Share on other sites
