I've recently acquired some MkIII marines that I am going to convert into my 3rd assault squad.  Given how different these guys will look from my other jump pack units I figured I would make them into Vanguard Vets.

Anyone have any advice on the best loadout for them?  I'm looking to make them visually interesting more than anything else.  Barring significant points changes with the upcoming Errata I don't see myself using them on the tabletop anytime soon, buuuuuuut I'd like to have them kitted out in an at least halfway decent fashion if things change.

I use 3 Vanguard with Storm Shields and Chainswords in my 10 man squad to soak a bit of AP fire. I also have 3 models with dual Chainswords for even more attacks at a budget. These guys can take the bullets when you need to.

The last 4 models, including the Sergeant, have dual Lightning Claws.

All have jump packs and they are quite useful. I use them infantry clearance primarily since they have 13 Lightning Claw attacks and 21 Chainsword attacks. As an Ultramarines player Scions of Guilliman can be useful when you need to beef them up when they are away from their character support.

I don't know if they're the best load out, but the unit rocks in cheaper than 250pts.

Thats a good build.  I am considering a Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield on the Sergeant for a little bit of multi-wound/vehicle threat + rule of cool, but I like the mix of LC, Chainswords and Storm Shields on the other guys.

I recently played a squad of 10.

Sgt got dual claws

4 axes + shield

5 power swords + bolt pistols

The shields were soaking a lot of firepower (if I recall correctly I lost only one marine through firepower). I guess it's a bit overkill but I will try them in bigger games against tougher targets. They will be fine, I guess. :)

Thanks.

They kill things and have a decent number of attacks.

For that they get shot a lot and thus their potential diminishes. I recommend having OTHER attacking/threatening units to increase saturation and muddy the opponent target priority.
