The Chaos Land Raider is marked as webstore exclusive, while the loyalist one is generally available. I have not checked whether brick and mortatr GW stores carry the Chaos Land Raider contrary to the marking on the web site.

The predator variants are not marked but nonetheless I can't find them at third party retailers.

Does anyone know why CSM/DG/TS players are slighted like that?

Because CSM have much more recent vehicle kits with a much stronger faction bent. It's been pretty clear for years now that GW see Astartes tanks as secondary to daemon engines (an approach that seems very sensible were it not for the fact that said tanks are still incredibly cool kits).

Stock levels at stores are based on demand, or anticipated demand. It's not worth a third party retailer (or even a GW store) using their limited shelf and storage space holding stock of something that sells once in a blue moon compared to holding stock of things that sell at a high rate.

Furthermore, GW is much better able to supply those kits without over-producing if they hold the kits that sell infrequently at HQ. It's no good if somebody who wants to order one from the webstore can't get it because the 50 boxes that already exist have sat unsold on the shelves of places like Carmarthen GW for the last 6-7 years.

This is why stock regularly gets recalled from stores to the warehouse; GW don't need to produce more kits to satisfy the meagre demand, they just need the stock they've already produced to be accessible.

The thing is I have contacted several retailers and they told me GW won't sell them Chaos Land Raiders. I can't quite remember whether I got the same response concerning the predators or whether they were just out of stock. waylandgames for example doesn't even have the predator or the land raider on their website.

I can't give you the specifics obviously, but i'm sure somewhere in the depths of GW accounting there will be a calculation that determines when the demand for a product and the cost of producing more combine to make it favourable to restrict availability rather than increase production. 50 Chaos Land Raiders sold via the webstore is more profitable than 20 via the webstore and 30 to wholesale.

its just one of those things. The large discounts across several product lines will always be outweighed by the compromise of not having a full line of products to offer. Always has been and always will be the case. We can hate it....it wont change it though. I've learnt to just pop into GW for the essentials and anything else that ill save significantly on I will goto Dark Sphere etc.

Huh. It would almost just make sense to make one kit, with doodads for loyalists and traitors. A little more plastic per kit, but only one shelf spot instead of two...

I mean, it's basically that case already. The Chaos Predator is exactly the same as the Loyalist Predator, just with the "spiky sprue". It's hardly a massive problem to not have it sold directly when they sell another box that's virtually the same thing.

Not too long ago I requested a special order from a local store for a Chaos Space Marines Predator tank and was told they couldn't order it as it was going direct only. I dont think that has turned put to be true yet but I can't find a brick and mortar or my usual online stores that seem to ever have it in stock. 2 of my 3 Predators in my Thousand Sons army will be loyalist preds with some bits tacked on to make it look sufficiently traitorous. You get the spikey sprues and that about the only real difference between loyalists and traitors.

Does the spiky sprue have the "flash hiders"? I think not. As a matter of fact I cannot even find the sprue on the website. :-(

The Spiky Sprue has all the Chaos vehicle bits though? It has the trophy-rack/fence-paling things, and the gargoyle-head bits.
