Edit: added some photos to this hobby blog in replies

Hi guys, so I've lurked around these parts since the codex hit last year.

This codex has pretty much single handedly brought me back to the hobby after about 5 years out of the game, and I've slowly been painting up my dark imperium box.

As I've progressed with the painting, I've started thinking about what sort of list I might one day run.

Please give me your thoughts!

Notes on selection: I first played death guard back with the old 3.5 dex, so I'm looking to finally run a list with morty.

For fluff reasons, I've also never been too keen on tanks in death guard... so I've not got any.

Current points I'm undecided about:

- Whether to go plasma or launchers in the pm squad. I think overcharged plasma with the Lord might help take care of TEQs and light vehicles in a way launchers wouldn't.

- Keep the Lord or switch to Plaguecaster? I've gone Lord as I feel there's already enough psykers. Switching to caster probably means swimtching to launchers in the pms too.

- I'm open to suggestions on the daemons. They're here to give me a cheap way to tarpit threats to morty/claim objectives. An alternative is taking some blightlords?

- Similarly, Herald psykers combo well with morty. Shriveling pox plus morty's toughness aura should make curse of the leper really dangerous. And fleshy abundance might keep him in the game longer if I don't get first turn. Could also swap to the +1 invul save power?

Basic tactics: Typhus, tallyman and the poxwalkers set up centrally with marines and grenade guy on a flank. Bell guy positioned to help everyone run. One unit of walkers gets +1 toughness, the other gets -1 to hit (unless morty needs this more).

Morty, heralds and the drones take the flank nearest the marines. Arch contaminator helps the drone spitters, as well as grenade bombardments.

I've got quite a lot of command points so will be cloud of flies-ing the pms, blight bombarding with votlw and might even use dead walk again, exploding tank or daemon strats depending on opportunities.

Also tempted to put a power sword on the Lord and upgrade it to plague bringer for a second relic (mainly for arch contaminator rerolls).

Cheers!

Im not very familiar with mortarion list.
If you play ITC mission, nurglings are one of the best unit in the game. Otherwise just a good way to get 3CP.
The deathguard chaos lord has acces to the balesword, so you do not need to spend CP on the plague bringer to benefit from arch contaminator.

Having mortarion as your warlord isn't a good idea; he's such a large target already without an extra VP incentive.

Maybe cut the biologus and turn your lord into a flying Prince with contaminator instead? It's very tricky to get all your marines within 6", especially when the biologus next to them is a clear sign to avoid. Their movement is even more limited than normal since you have them with plasma so you won't want to advance them.

Hi guys, thanks for the advice.

My thinking with the power sword > relic is that the balesword is a point to many for this list. So that's definitely a work-around.

I'm keen to keep morty, so would you suggest switch the warlord and arch contaminator to the Lord and switch to blight launchers - then everyone can run to keep pace.

Thought I'd also make this into something of a hobby blog - so here's a shot of my marines to date:

Hey guys, nope no games. And I'll be completely honest, it'll be a while before I do.

This army is more what I'm aiming to build - which is why I thought I'd ask opinions before I spend my cash.

Anyway, heres some zombie dudes I did this weekend.

They're all wearing red to tie into the marine's scheme. And I'm a believer smaller palettes look better (when I paint them at least).

That said, I'm thinking I might give the next ten green jumpsuits, for some small amount of variety.
