Any notable lore developments in the new codex?

I finished reading through and didn't notice anything big. On the whole it seems like it's been updated, descriptions seemed a bit fresher and verbiage matched the current timeline better. AdMech and Tyranids are both made out to be the big bads, for pillaging and more serious pillaging respectively. They give the Necron name for blackstone (noctilith) as well as a touch more information on it throughout the book.

One thing I noticed (and liked quite a lot) was how absolutely grim it makes out the Necron's backstory to be. Lots of room for old and new versions of the fluff involved.

@Ensign Joker:That’s been around, but it’s nice to know that’s still in. Didn’t know about the krork though.

Also, noctilith? They managed to make a not completely retarded name for it, eh? I like it!

Confused as to how tyranids are more plundering than the AdMech though, as Necrons don’t care about the biosphere of their Tomb Worlds, and their null field matricies really hurt the hivemind, given it nullifies the Warp around them.

One of the interesting things to me, both with the codex and Forgebane fluff, is the descriptions of Crypteks. They talk about all these cool powers they have, and different ways they can manipulate the battlefield, almost like psykers. It makes me think that GW was leaning into giving them powers on par with other armies psykers, but didn’t for some reason. Maybe next time...

5 harbingers.

-Harbinger of Despair

-Harbinger of Destruction

-Harbinger of Storms

-Harbinger of Eternity

-Harbinger of Transmogrification

they all had unique gear that has been redistributed as relics and regular stuff. For example, the Harbinger of eternity had a chronometron and a timesplinter cloak, as well as a melee staff that reduced whatever it struck to I and A 1. Not very useful, he was mainly a support guy. The VoD used to be a DespairTek wargear choice, and now its a relic.

Its sad we have much less customization, but now we do avoid the royal court circus things could be (11 characters in 1 HQ slot, with a million ways to customize them).
