HandsWithLegs
I'm relatively new to the hobby and with forgebane out I want to give magnetizing a shot with the armigers. Only problem is I've never tried this before and don't know where to get magnets, what sizes to get, or how to align them. I want to magnetize the head, weapons/arms, and possibly the armor pieces so if different weapon kits come out I can switch between the parts in them or so I can try making custom components. Does anybody know a good tutorial for the armigers, or have any tips to get me started? Grotsmasha
From their size, I'd recommend 2mm by 2mm round magnets. EBay is as good of a place as any to get magnets at a reasonable prices. I wouldn't worry about magnetizing armour plates, but the head and weapons should be simple enough. To gauge the correct depth, wrap some masking tape around your drill bit to the correct depth of your magnets. To align your magnets, choose one starting point, ie. the weapon mount on the arm. Then set that magnet and allow the glue to set. Drill the corresponding holes on any bits that will attach there, and put glue into the hole. Then place the new magnet on the other magnet, the one you've let set and push the model piece onto the magnet and slide it off rather than pulling it as it won't pull the magnet from the hole. Using this method, I've never glued a magnet in backwards. HandsWithLegs
2mm x 2mm seems really tiny but I'll take your word on it. The reason I wanted to do the plates is I notices that a few came on the weapons sprue, indicating that there may be more on the way. Also, I want to try to design and 3d print some cool new components and those armor plates might be really fun to customize. Thanks for all the advice! treadhead
It all depends on the strength of the magnet really, I've used a high strength 2mm by 1mm for my regular sized knights and almost everything else I've magnetized over the years (from tactical squad special weapons, centurions, character load outs to gk terminator melee weapons) and they hold up very well during games. Thrers some sound practical tips delivered above only thing I would add is get a decent sized pack of magnets as you'll be able to find uses for the little wonders when you start playing around with them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345683-magnetizing-armiger/#findComment-5043322 Share on other sites
