So how exactly does the Emperor eat 10,000 souls a day?

Hi,

So we all know that the black ships fly around the galaxy finding psychics who then get fed to the big nearly dead chap in the fancy chair

But how exactly does it work?

Do they just dump 10,000 psykers in front of the golden throne and he absorbeds them? Do they gave to be put into a special machine that sucks the soul out which then gets tube fed to the big E?

I mean 10,000 a say is one soul every 8.6 seconds

Does he have in all at once or is it a case of take 1,000 souls every 3 hours, max 10,000 a day?

Also does it have to be bang on 10,000 or would 9,987 be okay if one of them was a bit fat?

Which leads me onto the next question are all souls equal or would some count as more then others?

How do you think it works?

Cheers

Is there actually a difference between the psykers that are consumed by the Emperor and those that are consumed powering the astronomican?

And are they just hooked up to a machine and drained, or are they 'prepared' before eaten by the Emperor? And do some psykers offer themselves willingly to the Emperor (after all, in a theocracy like the Imperium you can bu sure there are losts of people, psykers included, who would want nothing more than to be eaten by their deity).

Well for dramatic reasons it should be as many as possible. I always liked that bit of background because for me it had something so obviously dangerous and sinister "freeing" psyker souls and merge them with the Emperor. So on one side it's the only way for safe space travel and on the other side well ask the eldar about the birth of Slaneesh ...

I thought it was 1,000, but, as a minimum.

I'm pretty sure even for Marshal Rohr, even that is a pale comparison, to the reality said Psyker that is unworthy to serve in life, must instead meet such a grisly end...

pretty sure they just plug thim (each person is a battery and they are placed into a casket like thing) when plugged into the machine it turns everything thats inside it into energy and thats fed to big E.

It then ejects the caskete and loads another, except this machine to feed the emp/astronomicon is probably the size of a skyscraper

Read master of mankind. There are also some allusions to the throne machine tech in the Magnus, Master of Prospero book.

Its a machine with a thousand plus pods, and room for more. You plug in the psykers, and it basically tortures them and somehow extracts their psychic potential (somehow being invasive, excruciating psycho-surgery), and then feeding it to the emperor.

Yes the adeptus astronomica psykers are very different. While the golden throne payments are weak and untrainable, the adept choristers of the astronomicon undergo lengthy training in mysticism and at the end they may not pass the exams to join the choir, and if they fail they become part of the monastic order that runs the astronomicon and trains the choristers. They are also in the Himalayas, on the other side of the world from the golden throne, which is in Nottingham.

Isn't it 1000 a day, not 10,000?

No, it is ten thousand. The first consignment are a thousand, and a Silent Sister notes there are caskets for ten times their number.

It’s been about three weeks since I read it, but I’m pretty sure it’s just a thousand. I’ll look it up here in a second.

It took a thousand to keep the Webway open for a single day. That's not necessarily an indication of how many are needed for the Astronomicon or to keep the Emperor "alive".

Also, I did a bit of checking; sources about the Astronomicon mention it's powered by 10,000 Psykers, each of whom will perish "within a matter of months". So it's not ten thousand a day - it's ten thousand at a time, each taking months to burn out entirely.

Assuming 3 month lifespan, that's 40,000 Psykers a year, or about 110 Psykers per day.

Found it, its a classic case of 'both'

At any given time, there are ten thousand psykers chained up, with a casualty rate of a thousand a day. The quotes don't cancel each other out. Classic multi-edition context errors.

Also, this bit from Codex Imperialis indicates that its psykers who can't control their powers - which is cool for competency points.

With mustard...I mean...how else could he stay the Golden Emperor of Mankind? But I bet he still can't see why kids...I'll see myself out before I finsih that one.

Also, It is of note shows how MASSIVE the human population is. Psykers are just a fraction of it yet there is enough to sustain 10k a day. 10 MILLION years, that's 3650000 a year. Not accounting for leap years, this means he has consumed over 36,500,000,000,000 souls...that went into quadrillions...Soooooo...he has had a fair few by the time we roll around. Yet this is considered minor for the human race which means that on top of the billions that die for the emperor each day, goes to show that the human race really does two things well...War...and well...you know...
