Sisters Flyers, Moved Discussion: What Do You Want / Need?

Recommended Posts

Hello, so, to get right to it, I have an idea for a flyer; ERJAK has one as well, and I hope said person is along soon, if willing, to type it up.

Flyer layout, thus far.

- < = O = > -

- Corvus wings

< and > Corvus bays, now weapons pods
= Still whatever engines look cool
O Either Valkyrie or Stormwolf transport bay, I like 8 TDA Sisters

For the < and > bays, now weapons holding...

- Pair of Melta Lances (This variant is meant to be a smaller, deadlier Caestus Assault Ram)

- Pair of Vulcan Mega-Bolter

- Pair of Avenger Bolt-Cannon

- Two Pairs of Flamestorm Cannon, so four total (The BIG flamers on the Land Raider Redeemer)

A dorsal turret, in the back, like on the Stormwolf, with one of three choices:
- Dual Heavy Bolter
- One Heavy Bolter, one Multi-Melta
- Dual Multi-Melta

And just in the front, above the front assault ramp door, the cockpit, with a Sister at the controls, and below her, a turret with one of the following three:
- Dual Heavy Flamer
- One Heavy Flamer, one Heavy Bolter
- Dual Heavy Bolter

Additional option to add a Corvus-like pair of Hurricane Bolters.

---

And, the payload? 8 Sisters in TDA, sized for them: 1 Cannoness or Palatine, 1 Sister Hospitaler if wanted, 1 Veteran Celestian Superior, and 5 or 6 Celestians with a ranged choice, and a melee choice. Well, what choices?

Ranged:
Bolt, melta or flamer pistols. Plasma if still accessible and wanted.
OR
Storm Bolters and Combi Bolters
OR
And this one would depend more on the final TDA Sister model size, but:
Storm pistols. Yes, pair a bolt pistol with either a second, a hand flamer, or an inferno pistol.

Melee:
Power Sword or Maul, struggling past that.

---

I want to see if I can kitbash the flyer. What parts, besides the Corvus Darkstar, two ForgeWorld Melta Lance Leviathan Dreadnought Arms, and maybe either a Valkyrie or Stormwolf transport bay to turn into this thing's new primary core section would be best? I do like the idea of this deadly vehicle.

Working name thus far: Redemptor

Thoughts, feedback, your own theorycrafting, any and all brainstorming ideas, etc.?

So, a slightly wider corvus with an assault pod replacing the cockpit and guns where the old doors are?

Adjusting the body will be the tricky bit as the roof/underside are two big blocks with nowhere obvious to hacksaw-out the cockpit area to replace it. I don't have one to hand but the valkyrie body length is also going to be relevant, though easier to shorten.

As for my own theorycrafting and the assault ram...

Sororitas lander

I'm still not sure of Sisters getting TDA. However, putting that aside, I was thinking of something more equivalent of a Storm Raven. 12 models, plus the ability to carry a walker...assuming we get a Sisters specific one, now the Penitent Engine is a Ministorum model. Load capacity set at 8 is a weird number, most transports either being able to carry five, six, ten or twelve models. If we get a flying transport, it should be able to carry a multitude of troops, and not be specific for one type of unit.

It's nice to be able to speculate though ^_^

Edit: I think a different name instead of Redemptor. That's a Primaris Dreadnought variant, isn't it?

16 Power Armor models; Tactical Dreadnought Armor counts as 2 PA models.

Sorry.

I was just thinking smaller custodes suits would look better, just likely a 2+ Armor save, 5++ for say, a Holy Relic incorporated into the armor to add One to their faith-based invulnerable save.

Oh, I see. You'd already divided the number for bigger units. Makes more sense now :)

Too small then, the corvus is a tiny thing.

I will need either plastic card, very thick, or a Stormwolf hull, then, to proceed. I really like this idea; also, one with a Stormraven like transport option could be fun, too.

Hm...

Well the original design seems ok model wise, is more a question of having such an unusually high capacity

Is it controversial or inappropriate to say I don't think they need a flyer, or at least it's for when the range is fully fleshed out? The GSC and Admech releases have gotten by fine without them (Admech don't even have ground transports!). I'm not sure the game needs another gothic styled stubby winged flyer especially when there is plenty of Imperial Navy support available.

The Sisters should have something more in a skimmer aesthetic than a fast mover, I think. It should be something weird, not just a straight forward assault transport. Maybe like a deepstriking chapel with a Repulsor style locomotion. Not an assault vehicle, but a mobile fortress with battlements for a squad of Retributors to put out the hurt from. Maybe have it generate faith points or something, give a bubble of improved leadership. Have a Confessor up on a pulpit like a chariot driver, shooting off his own guns and sining hymns. Something that really says, "only these religious fanatics would bother with this" instead of just a plane piloted by a Sister.

I guess I picture something between a Monolith and a Tidewall except extremely gothic and full of pissed off nuns.

:teehee:

Perfect.

I like my idea still, however, dayum, that thing sounds just about right!

A skimming church type fortification that provides a mobile fire base for Retributors or a roost for Seraphim to descend from.

I was thinking skimmer over flyer, I just didn't think of a floating shrine purging from the sky. Glad Warsmith did. Now I am going to have to build one!

As for my own theorycrafting and the assault ram...

A good effort, A.T. Will you write rules allowing a player to use it in a similar fashion to the Space Marines' Caestus assault ram, e.g., intentionally crashing it into other enemy vehicles?

Credit for the design goes to a poster on another board called Trenchfoot who built one as a counts-as assault ram before the actual assault ram came out.

They are actually really easy to build, fit perfectly into a standard size KR case (if you don't glue the front wings in place), is very stable on its flight stand, and look better in person - my colour scheme and rather poor photos don't do the design justice.

Much bigger than the model the OP is aiming for though.

Sororitas lander.

Throne Shrine sounds like a worthwhile name for this nastiness...

Still, I ordered the two Melta Lances yesterday, so I at the very least need to try and kitbash the OP mentioned flyer together, as well.

Not exactly what you are thinking of, but the space wolf 'santa sled' works as a hover-pulpit for priests. It's a little cramped but you can fit around three models on there without bases.

If we were going to get a flyer I would rather have 3 flyers rather than an all in one.

First would be a transport capable of carrying penitent engines in in addition to infantry. it wouldn't even have to both at the same time.
Second would be a bomber or anti ground support of some type. Exorcists Missiles and mortal wounds as well as options for the holy trinity.
Third would be a fighter other anti air type.

Why not let us use the bomber as a transport, i.e., have passengers ride in the bomb bay? That should be a convenient way to deploy jump infantry.
