Tantalus

So it's no secret that the Reaper is terrible compared to the Ravager simply by virtue of having heavy weapons, but how do folks feel about the Tantalus?

You can fit 16 models in there, it shoots 12 times with essentially overcharged plasma guns (but -3AP), and is a monster in melee with 6 S8 -2AP attacks.  Should allow for a nice concentration of firepower and efficient utilization of command points both for the Tantalus and the unit inside.  Add re-rolls from an Archon, and now you're cooking (crystal meth).

Granted it costs as much as three raiders, but is a bit tougher at T7 W18 Sv3+.

Has anyone used this in 8th edition?

Not personally but the only other DE player in my area loves the thing. As you've said it's got strong stats and good firepower. He tends to run it with either Trueborn or court(the shoot snakes) plus an archon And proceeds to just ram it into as many things as he can while the occupants drown threats in wounds.

Yes it's pricy but God does it draw fire from everything in range once it starts mowing things down with those cannons. Which makes it a good distraction for squishy units and blobs(wyches)

Couple people over at the Dark City have realized there's some really cheesy exploits you can pull off with a tantalus using the new stratagems, like the heamoncolus covens one from the dark creed faction which lets you snipe characters  for a cp. Now imagine using that on the tantalus guns...little too good. Since the tantalus can be any faction keyword, it works until fw responds to the de codex changes. There some other things you can do which don't really fit, like throw fifteen hellions in there and use it to protect them until they can charge, even though that doesn't fit at all.

As far as the tantalus goes in general though, it seems like a solid grav tank to me. Solid firepower, nice extra transport capacity, excellent when packed full of blasters or maybe a horde of wyches. Personally though I like making MSU focused lists with DE, and that's much harder to pull off with a 400pts ish transport in the army, so I'd pass on getting it.

I suppose, but when I want to take a lot of units in transports I'd rather take the most economically efficient way of getting my kabalites in transports, and the tantalus definetly isn't that. Don't have anything against the tantalus, I just don't have much interest in using it.

Yes, it's 400 now thanks to Chapter approved.

When the next chapter approved comes out I'm expecting changes for  it, as mention about there some seriously over looked loopholes with new codex coming out, and just what was previewed or leaked.

It was great when you can/could max out true born with blaster and DL and jam them down the other army throat.  Do to another loophole you could pack in Scourges and do the same thing.  However with the internet saying true borns getting dropped, the Scourges might be new rage. But agin thats just loophole so who knows how long before it gets fixed

It is hard sell for mus list, as eats up a chunk of points and has huge foot print to, so its not easy to hide or get around the board. I strongly recommend upgrading the base as plastic flight stand vs 100 EU price tag is a fail.

It's only HS slot to.

But I am little nervous about whats going to happen to it when the next edition of Chapter approved comes out, it got hit with slight point adjustment which didn't really negative effect it, but now with the new sub factions rules, some cheesy is going to start happen.

Give it the red grief, and you got 1st turn charge with no issues, 16 move normal double it when advancing, add charge roll.

Dark creed, not only is that characters worse night mare, the fact this thing is huge you covering more units with the -1 form the LD.  I looking strongly at this one and pairing with some shadow specters to reduce the LD even more and just phantasm grenade launchers just because you can.

flayed skull is okish taken away a cover save is nice and all but there more powerful ones.

Obsidian rose, situational mention, simple because rumor mill is saying true born are out, if there wrong this will be my go to. Max out blaster and reap the benefits of the extra range on giant gun boat.

I bought one just for the rule of cool and build a list around it, I not very good DE player, but i make the thing work, or it crash and burns in epic fashion.

I used it a few times. Had to start it in a corner and then advance into range to which it subsequently died.

It needs to alpha strike. The Jet stratagem is saving it from sub par to great. I plan on using the OR obsession and fill it with blasters.

That coven sniper stratagem is odd that it allows vehicles. A disintegrator ravager is going to be deadly too. I expect it to become infantry and monster only.
