Delta.Skies
Making a IG allied detachment. got a box of shock troopers without fully thinking about if I wanted to go shock troops or scions. But was wondering if it is possible to convert shock troopers into scions. It would save a fair amount of mula. Any ideas you guys have to spice up vanilla troopers? Ranulf
Unless you're a deft hand with Greenstuff, the cost is prohibitive. Adding third-party or Forgeworld upgrades will likely mean spending more coin than having bought Scions in the first place. That said, you can check out companies like Anvil Industries, MadRobot, Maxmini, Kromlech for conversion bits. Or of course, Forgeworld. -Ran Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345825-converting-shock-troops-to-scions/#findComment-5045996 Share on other sites
Danny Cyanide
Yeah, I agree with Lord Ranulf! You would badly have to sculpt heavier armor on the Cadians, and add some kind of power pack and cabling to their lasguns to represent hot shot lasguns. Plus making the heads not look like Cadians with some kind of resperator. Seems like a lot of work! If you only bought one box, if either try to return it if it's unopened, or sell it and buy some Scions. Either that or go nuts buying 3rd party bits to upgrade them, but honestly to get them to look good as scions, you'd have to replace pretty much the entire models with 3rd party parts! Inso
I'd take the green stuff route. I'd just add armour plates and a back-pack. I'd then link the lasguns to the back-pack with a bit of wire threaded through a scooby string :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345825-converting-shock-troops-to-scions/#findComment-5046042 Share on other sites
Danny Cyanide
It'd definitely be a way to rapidly improve your sculpting abilities! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345825-converting-shock-troops-to-scions/#findComment-5046051 Share on other sites
Lucerne
Helmets are easy, backpacks you'd want to mold and cast from a base model with greenstuff, lasguns are best swapped out entirely... To get a blinged out scion, it'd be ridiculous. To get a carapace armored elite guardsman like the old kasrkin or stormtroopers is much more doable. Harrowmaster
I've done this with shock troops, it's not difficult if you have the parts. I did it by giving everyone voxes (less the antennae) and helmets with respirators (either vox heads or normal ones with the masks from the CCS box). I added the scopes from the HWS box set to all the lasguns and gave them all extra equipment such as binoculars, explosives extra pouches. It was easy enough because I had all the bits I needed, if you don't have spare bits, it wouldn't be so easy. Ulrik_Ironfist
Turning this: into this: http://painted-minis.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/9/9/99110105165-2_1_.jpg would be rather time consuming and expensive. Such that simply buying some Kasrkin would be more cost effective (and they're not cheap). I really don't like the scion models, since they don't really mesh with the current plastic offerings aesthetically. Major_Gilbear
Getting suitable alternate heads is very cheap; that plus some plastic rod to modify the lasguns with, and a suitable paintjob... Done. If you're in the UK, West Wind Miniatures and Pig Iron Productions do lots of suitable heads at very reasonable prices. As an additional bonus, modifying Cadians means that you can choose to run them as Storm Troopers, Cadians, or whatever other regiment you like. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345825-converting-shock-troops-to-scions/#findComment-5046439 Share on other sites
mertbl
I'd recommend a third party head, backpacks from the heavy weapon teams, scopes/optics and some sort of barrel extension or suppressor for the lasgun to hotshot conversion, maybe some shoulder pads from anvil. I cut all the cables off my scions. Elite marksmen that can't switch hands with their guns, dumb. FlamingDeth
If you’re going to go heavy on scions you may be able to mix and match parts. Scion legs and Cadian torso, scion torso and Cadian legs, and given enough scion boxes probably enough special weapon arms to outfit the whole bunch. Delta.Skies
I was thinking of going old school and throwing some tau legs and backpacks on them considering the lore of them being under the xenos inquisitor. After looking into the codex a little more I can convert them and say they are veterans or I can say they are scions of I can get some scion heads. With guitar wire and modify the lasguns Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345825-converting-shock-troops-to-scions/#findComment-5046661 Share on other sites

Delta.Skies
Bought tau legs, back pack, purity seals, scout heads guitar wire to do some converting. Ebay popped up with a 11 man squad (no sprues) for half the price ...
