Buggane
HI All Pretty simple really, do people go through the whole black/eshin grey/dawnstone on their aquilas or just stop after eshin grey? I've painted some up and you seem to be barely able to see the grey highlights, i'm trying to work out if I was just to delicate and didn't put enough down or if you always have to go to a lighter colour. Ahistorian
I would do one harsh highlight muted with Nuln Oil Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345833-black-aquilas/#findComment-5046239 Share on other sites
dread05
After Abaddon black, I drybrush eshin grey, then do a coat of nuln oil. If I'm not happy with the result, I might do some edge highlight with eshin grey again at the hightest parts of the aquila wings. Damon Nightman
I like to drybrush longbeard grey (light grey dry paint) and wash with nuln oil. It will look too light at first, but the nuln oil with darken it up Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345833-black-aquilas/#findComment-5046867 Share on other sites
Xenith
I'll be trying some out soon. My first thought was eshin grey then two coats of nuln oil+ lahmian medium for a gradation. Karhedron
I use my old pot of Codex Grey (not quite sure what the modern equivalent of that shade is) drybrushed over abaddon black (see below). I find it is enough for me but ultimately the real test is whether you like it or not. The most important person to satisfy with your paint scheme is yourself. Jolemai
... That is pretty much how I paint :O (the red armour and green bases that is) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345833-black-aquilas/#findComment-5053861 Share on other sites
Karhedron
That is pretty much how I paint (the red armour and green bases that is) I have now grassed the bases but other than that, job's a good'un. Someone described the look as "retro". I didn't have the heart to tell them I have been painting my BAs like that since the 90s. I am not sure if it counts as retro if I have always painted them like that. :p Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345833-black-aquilas/#findComment-5053876 Share on other sites
