What system I give an all burst cannon coldstar?

I've built a cold star with the high output burst cannon and 2 normal burst cannons for 16 shots

But I'm torn as to which support system to give him

My first thought was an advanced targeting system for a bit of AP on all the shots but I'm worried that he is not very survivable and will just get killed after he's got 1 turn off so I'm thinking a shield

I could give him a shield drone but them I loose his 20" movement

Amy thoughts

Depends on the rest of your army. If you're confident in having always another unit between him and your opponents nasty shooting, then definitely ATS. Also if he's not your warlord it's okay if you lose him eventually so a non-warlord Coldstar could take the ATS as well.

18" is lots of range on such a mobile unit. Play both versions a few times and see for yourself what works for you. ;)

Oh and you don't lose the 20" movement if you give him drones. Drones form their own unit after deployment so if you want to you could just leave them behind and move somewhere else. Potentially to another unit with Drones or whatever.

I was debating making him my warlord so I can give him the traitor where he can advance and shoot as normal. Then he could bamph around up to 40 inches whilst raining hot enlightenment on his foes.

Thanks for that nugget about the drones, I hadn't realised that, I might give him a shield drone then for the turn he drops and then he can hopefully jump to behind another unit

I only probably get 6 games of 40k a year so trying out lots of different things isn't really an option.

"Through Unity, Devastation" is a great Warlord trait if you have lots of Pulse dakka, Burst Cannons, HYMP and SMS in your army. Or at least one of the best we can take. I'd say 80% of our Warlord traits are either bad or just not interesting on a BS2+ character.

The HoBC & dual BC coldstar is cool (i'm actually building one myself with the ATS) but in typical T'AU fashion learning how to wield the weapon is of prime importance... looking for an opportunity to strike with it in support of other units can make it devastating  it's better to use 2 or even 3 units in concert to completely destroy one unit than to slightly wound 3 separate units...try not to think of T'AU as "lone rangers" they always work best together ...for the Greater Good remember

sad news, per the faq

coldstars must now replace both HOBC and HYMP for 2 other weapons.

so you keep HOBC HYMP and choose 2 more slots, or you ditch both for 4.

sot he HOBC 2bc list ats builds are now illegal

HYMP? Are you drunk? I'd love if the Coldstar had the HYMP. It's unfortunately just the regular MP. :biggrin.:

But yeah, I'm sure they just wanted to fix the 5 weapon/systems Coldstar issue but failed spectacularly to do so and now we're stuck with the MP as well. Tho if you want to send your Coldstar against infantry I'd still keep the HO-BC+MP. It's still better than 2xBC. ^^

=/ Might just keep it as a static load out then, eithers its 3x bc with ats, or if this gets fixed i'll be a hobc x2 bc ats

or maybe I do HOBC, HMP, MP ats

What's HMP? If you mean HYMP then I have to disappoint you. That's not part of the Ranged weapon list. It's Broadside exclusive.

Why would you go with 3xBC instead of HO-BC, MP, BC tho? It's basically the same except that you have two additional S7 AP-1(-2) D1d3 shots. HO-BC is nothing else than 2xBC just that it uses up one slot less and costs less. ;)

I'll stick with my go-to loadout from 7th tho I think. HO-BC+MP, ATS, Shield Gen. I just feel uncomfortable without an invul save on my Warlord lol.

I keep forgetting the name of the MP the coldstar comes with -.-

just modded my moarch/coldstar with magnets.

ATS, MP, 2xbc all magnetized.

HOBC equipped in his hands that can count as x2bc if necessary

probably going with your load out

HOBC, MP, ATS, SG

Sfpanzer, is a coldstar flamer any good?

viorla

ATS, SG, Flamer, FLamer (thermonuclionc projector)

hows that for being anti infantry?

Only if you don't care about losing him I guess. You're kinda wasting the BS2+ but get the super high mobilty you don't get anywhere else. You'll kill a few infantry models and then die.

I honestly think Burst Cannons are better than Flamer ever since they got a points drop even on regular Crisis (except against negative to hit modificators obviously).

Personally I think the Supernova Launcher looks quite tasty with its 18" Assault1d6 S6 AP-2 D2.

A Bork'an Plasma Coldstar sounds fun as well. With 15" Rapid fire you can easily hang out behind your units just like with Burst Cannons and just delete anything Marine. I didn't do the math compared to Burst Cannons for that one tho.

I used to give my Coldstar the Grav-inhibitor field so the GK player in my group couldn't teleport there to catch him with a re-rollable charge, however I'm not sure if that's still needed if the deep strike beta rules become core rules. My dream would be a Dynamic Mirror Field Coldstar but I refuse to play Dal'yth. :P

As a general anti-infantry weapon it is not as good as the Supernova Launcher which has better range and ignores line of sight.

The thermoneutronic projector is a really good deterrent against assault, many things would rather chance the longer charge range than take overwatch from a S6 ap -2 (with ATS) D2 flamer. It is also really neat for killing Culexus assassins and anything else (Eldar I'm looking at you) with stackable penalties to the to-hit roll.

The SL is just a great all-round weapon while the TP looks to be more of a specialised item. But if you are playing Vior'la why not pack two Coldstars and take both :)
