9x19 Parabellum
So I have a regular buddy I play with after D&D on Thursday nights. We usually start late (around 10 PM) so we like to keep the points low (1k to 1.2k MAX). I normally play BA's or RG and so I'm very familiar with what works for Space Marines at 1k points (or, maybe I'm not, since I haven't beaten him in like 12 games :-) So I'm curious how some of you guys would go about making army lists for 'Crons at 1k points. I'm not looking for anyone to give me their BEST 1k Point Necron WAAC LIST, PEWPEW! What I am interested in is how you guys would go about setting out to make an army list. For example: 1-would you shoot for a battalion at 1k points, or are the character/troop demands too extreme? 2-sorta related to #1, how many characters would you take at 1k, and what buffs are you looking for. Overlord + Cryptek? OL + L? Lord + Cryptek? 3-what do you feel the right number of warriors/immortals/lychguard/praetorians is per unit at 1k points, in order to be able to actually get your RP rolls? 4-what stratagems, warlord traits, dynasty and/or artefacts would you be looking at for 1k point army lists? 5-any other things to consider for a smaller game like this? So, for example, I threw together this list, with the goal of a battalion in mind. HQ: CCB with SoL, Res Orb, Gauss Cannon HQ: Cryptek with Chron 10 Immortals with Tesla 10 Immortals with Gauss 16 Warriors 1 Stalker with Heat Ray So, obvious problem is troops are taking up over 50% of list and Characters are almost 30%...leaving a small pittance for elites, heavies, fast attack, etc. Then again, I'm loathe to reduce troop unit sizes for fear of them getting gibbed and no RP rolls. N1SB
I am curious about this exact issue. Please share your insights from this new edition. 1-would you shoot for a battalion at 1k points, or are the character/troop demands too extreme? 2-sorta related to #1, how many characters would you take at 1k, and what buffs are you looking for. You framed those questions so well, Brother! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345935-building-1k-armies/#findComment-5048269 Share on other sites
DeStinyFiSh
I am planning to start Necrons as well, and my first target is the following list: Mephrit Dynasty 1 Overlord, Veil of Darkness, Scythe, Orb, Immortal Pride 1 Cryptec, Cronometron 20 Warriors 10 Imortals Gauss 10 Imortals Tesla 1 Doomsday Ark I feel with this list I have got enough CPs, Tesla will help against numbers, Gauss against tougher targets. Thanks to Mephrit both gets even better against armour when getting close, so worst case I should be able to strip down even AVs and Monsters (wounding only on 5s, but hard to save). If I need something with more punch I have got the Ark. The lack of speed I try to compensate with the Veil of Darkness. This can also bring the Warriors or Gauss Immortals into RF range. And thanks to the Cryptec and Orb plus max sized units I think I can take some pain as well. I am sure this is not the most powerfull list and it has some weaknesses, but at 1000 points it is hard to be prepared for everything, especially with expensive units like the Necrons have. NTaW
1-would you shoot for a battalion at 1k points, or are the character/troop demands too extreme? 2-sorta related to #1, how many characters would you take at 1k, and what buffs are you looking for. Immortals). 2- Just the two, likely an Overlord and Cryptek but if I plan on using Destroyers at this level I'd use a Destroyer Lord and Cryptek. 3- I kinda feel like I would play a 20 man Warrior blob but the rest I would keep minimal. 4a- Stratagems relate sort of specifically to units, though I still find myself reserving 2CP for the BRB's auto pass morale (20 man Warrior blobs need that one at some point I find). 4b- Warlord Traits again relate specifically to the units you're taking. If you're not thinking Dynasty specific options the auto-pass morale one can save you 2CP and keep units around for RP the following turn. 4c- Mephrit and Novokh are my two favourite Codes, with Sautekh a close third. 4d- I love the Veil of Darkness. I use it on my Cryptek and bounce him and a 20 man squad of Warriors around where they're needed. It is also quite nice that you can use it to pull a unit out combat without falling back; I've done that before and I'll do it again every time the opportunity presents itself. Alternately you can use it in conjunction with other unit relocation abilities to pull an attack out of seemingly nowhere (people aren't quite used to fast moving Necrons yet). 5- Play the same list a few times, even if your opponent is changing things around. Get used to how your units succeed or fail and learn to work within those parameters before swapping things out looking for 'perfection'. Hope this helps a bit.
