Against the Nids ... help!

and Bjorn is seriously all the assault you need. if you give him fighting warlord trait and prevent him from being charged he will delete almost anything in the game when charging with a+1

I babysit Bjorn with a null zone librarian in my list. if null zone works it is pure carnage when Bjorn attacks

Avoid stealers though...

and hope he can't roll 6 to wound

One of my games i had in the bag against nids i threw Bjorn into 13 stealers with a broodlord just to see what he could do. He lived ONE round only because i somehow passed like 14 5+ saves (plus FNP) but only killed like 3 because of catalyst.

I tend to respect stealers, with many many bolter rounds now.

This was actually my first experience with nids in 8th edition over a year ago. I really mucked up my deployment an ended up with not just one but two genestealers gangs hitting my lines, although only one reached Bjorn. I thought  he was a goner. But lo and behold, I realized then what T8 really meant, which means my friend needed 6s to wound. Which he did get a fair amount but thanks to Bjorn's FNP, he survived about 40+ attacks with 2 wounds.

Back to OP, since I'm operating a razorback list these days, Bjorn is excellent as a counter assault unit, but have to make sure hordes are "funnelled" so that Bjorn doesn't get overwhelmed. And also still needs to be bubble wrapped to prevent flying monsters from "assassinating him" like what Aelska has used.

The bubble wrapping has me a little concerned with this list. I’ve got the 2 Razors, which I plan on keeping close the Bjorn to get rerolls and act as bubble wrap. I can see me needing to get those GHs out of the vehicles though to give him a screen.

I’ll probably keep the tooled up GHs for this role and take a Genestealer assault if I have to.

Can you believe, I hadn't noticed Bjorn was T8! I had been playing him at T7 (still a beast but nice to know he is less fragile than I thought). :blush.:

LOL, well in your defence, Bjorn's biggest protection doesn't come from his T8, it comes with from being a character. Even with T8, you still don't want to fight most big monsters like Knights, Bloodthirsters, Carnifexes or even another Dreadnought who have > S10 weaponry. so if it comes to the point where you need to rely on T8, hopefully you are only facing infantry rather than biggies like the above.

Only Daemon princes are somewhat weaker and vulnerable (no X 2 strength weaponry I think). Those you can mulch while he wounds you on 4s or 5s.

I really wish Bjorn picks up an Invuln soon though, the Feel no Pain isn't enough against multi damage wounds, especially AP-4 weapons Close combat weapons like chainfist or Guilliman's sword. And even against AP-3, a 6+ save is very unrealible.

Giving Bjorn saga of warrior born seems a no brainer but it’s not as good as it originally sounds. 1st round of combat, unless you’re multicharged the enemy will still attack first, then you get your turns attack. It’s only on his second turn it kicks in really.

It’s the same with true grit ... 2nd turn after 2 rounds of fighting before it kicks in.

I like the saga and will use that (Bjorn should last long enough in combat). True grit is a bit pants though .... I’m looking forward to some decent stratagems

I played a game against a genestealer cult list with two blobs of 'stealers last night and ended up taking the win mainly due to Bjorn and ensuring I was playing to the objectives rather than getting drawn into combats and swamped by the purestrain 'stealers. Bjorn was the anvil that they broke against, he took a squad of 15 purestrains attacking him for two turns and came out of it at the end of the game still swinging on one wound left, he eventually took the whole squad out with some last turn support from a squad of charging grey hunters who piled in to help him finish off the combat. I have read tales of him in 8th being a powerhouse but last night was the first game I had run him and he absolutely lived up to his legend, he took a rockgrinder transport out in one turn by causing 17 wounds with trueclaw then stood fast and endured waves of chitin and claws like a true warrior born.
