alpharius/what happened to Rob MacFarlane

Take with salt:

I was told that Rob didn't leave Forgeworld directly because of the criticism/negative feedback/abuse, but instead because he was forced to release models he wasn't happy with. Apparently whoever is in charge of the overall release schedule at FW (I was told Tony Cottrell, but I don't know much about the inner workings of FW) pressured Rob to release the Varagyr/Praetor in order to fill a gap in the schedule, despite him saying they weren't ready/he wasn't happy with them. This was compounded by the subsequent community backlash and caused there to be more bad blood than there might otherwise have been.

This is what I was told but as I didn't hear it myself, I don't know how true it actually is.

OK cool, this jives with my impression of Rob from personal meetings and other things I've heard. He was one of the strongest voices in FW for getting models out for every unit entry, and apparently Tony would often say it was unnecessary. Combine that with him having done the Cataphractii pads and Tony not letting 12 sets of them be released, and I can see how he might become unhappy with his position.

Honestly, I have no sympathy if he was sacked.

Comparatively speaking, it would cost Forgeworld very little to put these sculpts right, make replacement molds and get new display models built and painted. The fact they show no signs of trying to fix this beyond the Praetor comes across as ":cuss it, it's good enough for the idiots who buy our products".

These models are below par for a Chinese recaster, nevermind a company that is supposed to be all about unique, high-detail sculpts.
