mjrwaud
Trying to get a few more things painted before the codex arrives but was getting a bit bored with basic black so thought I'd paint up a squad with snow camo (my bases are all snow). Any thoughts, comments, or painting advice would be super appreciated! Vel'Cona
Neat idea! I like that you've kept the theme going, too. Now you just need an Inquisitor in the appropriate cold weather gear to complete the set! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346084-deathwatch-camo-snow-stalker-squad/#findComment-5052121 Share on other sites
Delta.Skies
This is dope, im getting the battle of hoth vibes from this. Diggin it, just thought about the idea of snow build up on black armor vibes, with spacewolf fur and ornaments Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346084-deathwatch-camo-snow-stalker-squad/#findComment-5052189 Share on other sites

Now you just need an Inquisitor in the appropriate cold weather gear to complete the set! Ooooh, that's a great idea! I've got an Inquisitor Greyfax to put together and paint... although I think she'll need some kitbashing to deal with the cold (maybe a mechanicus-style hood / respirator?). Indeed, they do look a little storm trooper-ish. I also had to take out a few of the parts I usually do red, otherwise they looked too White Scars / Apothecary-ish. mjrwaud
Slowly grinding through some more squads, trying new methods (armor painted only with washes this time) and sticking with a theme... I call this squad "Ironbreaker". Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346084-deathwatch-camo-snow-stalker-squad/#findComment-5056089 Share on other sites
Vel'Cona
I think I see why! :P I'm seriously a sucker for themed units in any army, and these are no exception. Great use of the Mk III Thunder Hammer, too! Great use of the Mk III Thunder Hammer, too! Thanks! It's easier (and more fun) to do troops in focused batches of five. These might be a little -too- prepared for taking out heavily armoured threats (and super pricey) but nothing says Iron Hands or Salamanders chapter like a power fist or thunder hammer to go with that combi-melta! What I love about the Deathwatch (that hopefully doesn't change with the codex) is the ability to mix and match specialists into kill teams, so these fellas will likely get split up across teams to one degree or another. Right now I'm trying to decide on the next themed squad to paint, although they'll definitely be Vanguard Vets with a blue-black scheme but I'm not sure which squad of five to go with... I have all these built... Dual plasma pistol (5) Bolt + plasma pistol (5) Bolt pistol + melee weapon (axe, sword, mace, chainsword, powerfist) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346084-deathwatch-camo-snow-stalker-squad/#findComment-5056484 Share on other sites
mjrwaud
A long time ago I remembered reading that black isn't actually the best camo for night operations and that very dark blue is actually better... so I whipped up this test scheme for some vanguard veterans but I'm not sure... any comments or advice would be super appreciated! Vel'Cona
Love the test scheme, though FWIW I think dual PP or dual BP are better from a pure appearance standpoint. I don't like mismatched weapons :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346084-deathwatch-camo-snow-stalker-squad/#findComment-5064155 Share on other sites

I don't like mismatched weapons Thanks! I'm thinking about toning down the gold and red though... might be a little too flashy. Yeah, I like the budget version with bolt + plasma but dual plasma does look really badass. I've got 5 of them in the works too, but I wanted them to look a little more up-armoured and brutal...
