Corruption of new blood

Hi All

After a bit of advice.  Got a friend that's agreed to give 8th a chance and try a game, he has played before, 3rd I think.  I'll be building both armies and have decided on 50 Power Level.  One will be Primaris Ultramarines which I was going to lend my friend, the list would be:

+ HQ +

Captain in Gravis Armor: Boltstorm gauntlet, Master-crafted power sword

Primaris Lieutenants
. Primaris Lieutenant: Power sword
. Primaris Lieutenant: Master-crafted auto bolt rifle

+ Troops +

Intercessor Squad: Bolt rifle, 4x Intercessor, Intercessor Sergeant
Intercessor Squad: Bolt rifle, 4x Intercessor, Intercessor Sergeant

+ Elites +

Primaris Ancient

+ Fast Attack +

Inceptor Squad: Assault bolter, 2x Inceptor, Inceptor Sergeant

+ Heavy Support +

Hellblaster Squad: Plasma incinerator
. 4x Hellblaster
. Hellblaster Sergeant: Bolt pistol

I want to give a fair crack for him so am a bit stuck what to use myself, my options are:

Grey Knights
Deathwatch
Craftworld Eldar
Haliquins
T'au  -  Still in boxes, give me an excuse to put them together.
Death Guard  - Currently a work in progress.

Also I'm a bit stuck for terrain, all our terrain pieces are round at a friends house who is on hols at the moment so any suggestions for quick mock/makeshift terrain, the table will be 4x4 with it being 50 PL.

Thanks in advance.

Are you looking for actual terrain, or just stand-in terrain?

For stand-in, go old school. Small boxes for bunkers, books for hills, oatmeal cylinder for a missile silo, etc. Maybe try to find some large rocks outside. Basically you'll just want shapes that block line of sight.

For semi permenant terrain, the easiest I know of are hills and rocky outcroppings. Get a sheet of insulation foam (look up the right type for your area to avoid anything toxic) and a hot wire cutter. Can knock out a ton of hills and rock pieces in an afternoon. If you have a lot of sprue around (or balsa wood strips) and some wire you can also make easy barbed wire fencing or tank traps. I'm sure others will have millions of ideas as well :)

A bit of cardboard and masking tape allows you to mock up ruins, walls and simple block buildings really easily (here's a good example). I'm a big fan of basic DIY terrain; minimal effort, but in my opinion x100 better than just throwing some household items down on the table proxy style.
